Fab Freebie: A Taste Of India

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’d heard of the “slow food movement” before, but not the “slow clothes movement” – until this week’s giveaway sponsor reached out to us. Saffron Marigold creates luxury Indian linens, and they make each tablecloth, bedspread, curtain and pillow cover very meticulously (both to safeguard traditional techniques and deliver a high quality finished product). Just think, all of these patterns have been meticulously hand-printed inch-by-inch using traditional woodblock techniques in Saffron Marigold’s Indian artisan studios. Pretty fantastic, eh?

Saffron Table Cloths

And this week TWO of you are going to have a chance to enjoy TWO pieces of these slowly and beautifully made linens in your home. Each winner will get their choice of a lovely tablecloth or table runner…

Saffron Table Runners

…and their choice of a gorgeous and graphic cushion cover.

Saffron Cushion Covers

And while you’re over on their site browsing their stunning designs, be sure to check out the photo slideshow of their time-intensive process which details how they create all the unbelievably intricate patterns. It will truly give you an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into these prizes. And you’ll also soon get to appreciate a sweet discount they’re dishing out (stay tuned for those details on Thursday).

Saffron Process

So here’s the gist:

  • PRIZE: Your choice of any  tablecloth or table runner from Saffron Marigold, plus one cushion cover.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MARIGOLD ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us something that you feel is always better when you take your time. Maybe you agree with the slow food or slow clothes movement? Or you prefer to give lots of time to painting or a DIY project? Perhaps you’re just a slow and very careful driver?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 9nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the WORLD!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I don’t tend to do anything slowly except running. But one thing I am trying to do more slowly is to eat slowly–to enjoy and taste my food instead of just wolfing it down:)

I think house projects are always better when you take your time. Not that they have to be expensive, just not rushed. Don’t go for the first thing you see, wait until you find just the right thing.

Coffee is better when I take my time. Brewing a cup of joe quickly in a coffee pot really pales in comparison to taking time boiling water and letting it slowly steep in French press. If only I had time to do that every day…

I’m slowing down my kid’s bedtime routine. She’s a staller extraordinaire, but I enjoy the few extra moments of cuddling and whispering. Even if it’s just a ploy by her to stay awake a little longer :)

    MARIGOLD ME!

Believe it or not, on my commute to work. I’d rather leave my home 15-20 minutes early, stroll to the subway station, and choose where to stand on the platform. Much better than rushing down the street, dashing down the escalator, and getting stuck on the standing-room-only car just to ensure I make it on time. It’s a great way for me to start my day, and I’m so much more relaxed and ready for work when I do get there. (Though, granted, with a 3yr old at home, this doesn’t happen every day!)

I think showers are always better longer. I like eating slowly w/ good company. And reading. Well, maybe not “reading” slowly. But the mentality of sitting back & enjoying a book rather than rushing to get a few pages in here & there between tasks. Does that make sense?

I do needlepoint by hand, so I know that taking my time with it makes me less likely to make a mistake and have to redo it later on. I also enjoy taking my time cooking and preparing food although that isn’t always possible. My job is one where everything is due ‘yesterday’ so in my home life I enjoy taking things slow.

MARIGOLD ME! Cookies. They’re just better when you make them right. The one that comes to mind is snickerdoodles. Some places sell them and they’re just sugar cookies rolled in cinnamon sugar. They’re not bad, but they don’t even come close to a real snickerdoodle, made from scratch with the right recipe so they’re crunchy and chewy and speckled with cardamom and cinnamon.

Smores anyone?!?! My dad taught me the perfect “slow is better” technique to perfecting the smore and it doesn’t even come close to competing with the “catch it on fire & blow it out” technique my friends use..

Marigold me please! These are stunning.

I feel that the most satisfying thing to do slowly (or at least taking as much time as I can) is to spend real time with my four year old daughter every morning. When you work outside the home getting out every day is a challenge, but we all have such a better day if we really take the time to play a bit without distraction each day.

I think dinners should be eaten slowly and with friends and family around. Far too often we rush through our meals, trying to just get them out of the way so we can go on with our day. Some of my favorite memories happened around meals that took an hour or two to finish.

MARIGOLD ME! This is just up my alley! So gorgeous, I don’t know how I would even choose.

I would take such splendid care of an object that was created in this hands-on method that I would be slow to having to replace it. I think it’s a point of view that you are dedicated to, and encourage as well. Buy well, have it forever (or nearly so). It cuts down on what goes in the landfills, provides employment to a dying art, lines your pockets with a bit of $ in the long run, enhances your day-to-day all the while. Seriously, marigold me.

In a world where faster usually equals better — cars, food, internet speed (if you’re lucky), I’m a big proponent of taking your time when walking from one place to another. I’ve said all my life that my speed is mosey. And my friends often make fun of me for always falling behind in groups, but I don’t mind.

Taking life at the speed of mosey allows me to breathe more deeply and notice all those things you’d miss if you were rushing by.
