Fab Freebie: A Taste Of India

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’d heard of the “slow food movement” before, but not the “slow clothes movement” – until this week’s giveaway sponsor reached out to us. Saffron Marigold creates luxury Indian linens, and they make each tablecloth, bedspread, curtain and pillow cover very meticulously (both to safeguard traditional techniques and deliver a high quality finished product). Just think, all of these patterns have been meticulously hand-printed inch-by-inch using traditional woodblock techniques in Saffron Marigold’s Indian artisan studios. Pretty fantastic, eh?

Saffron Table Cloths

And this week TWO of you are going to have a chance to enjoy TWO pieces of these slowly and beautifully made linens in your home. Each winner will get their choice of a lovely tablecloth or table runner…

Saffron Table Runners

…and their choice of a gorgeous and graphic cushion cover.

Saffron Cushion Covers

And while you’re over on their site browsing their stunning designs, be sure to check out the photo slideshow of their time-intensive process which details how they create all the unbelievably intricate patterns. It will truly give you an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into these prizes. And you’ll also soon get to appreciate a sweet discount they’re dishing out (stay tuned for those details on Thursday).

Saffron Process

So here’s the gist:

  • PRIZE: Your choice of any  tablecloth or table runner from Saffron Marigold, plus one cushion cover.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MARIGOLD ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us something that you feel is always better when you take your time. Maybe you agree with the slow food or slow clothes movement? Or you prefer to give lots of time to painting or a DIY project? Perhaps you’re just a slow and very careful driver?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 9nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the WORLD!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    MARIGOLD ME!

I just spent about 12 hours using an artist’s brush to touch up around the windows, doorways, and trim in the main level of my home. I may be neurotic but I’m so thankful I have a boyfriend who agrees that it’s necessary to make our first home just the way we want it.

Graphic design. When I throw something together, I always hate it. But when I take my time and think about the idea for a while, I end up with a better result. When I don’t RUSH picking out fonts, I always like them better too.

I generally do not take my time. I walk fast, I brush my teeth fast, I eat fast… but I take long, slow, hot showers every single day. It’s the only time of day that I’m not moving a mile a minute, and I love it.

I agree with the suggestion of taking your time while cooking. Not because the process is so enjoyable (for real, people?) but because if you don’t, you end up accidentally using salt instead of sugar, burning your cookies, or with popovers that resemble little pucks. Ask me how I know!

MARIGOLD ME! I like to take time to smell the roses, or any other flowers growing outside for that matter. I’ll be out on a walk (for exercise) and stop to smell some flowers and my husband either will sniff it too, or will hurry me along as if there is no time to be wasting while on a walk. These are beautiful prints, and I will have to check out their site.

Eating Moroccan clementines. I like to put them on the radiator and sit on the couch nearby where I can faintly smell them, then peel them when they have dried out a bit and their flavors are super concentrated. I separate each segment and eat each one slowly, thinking of M.F.K. Fisher, who wrote of her love of doing this while she was living in Europe. For me, nothing beats this simple pleasure in the dead of winter. Thanks, and please MARIGOLD ME! :-)

We have a veggie garden and we love to cook, so I guess we’re following the slow food movement. We make our own bread and our own cat food for our three felines. We also tend to do home renovation projects slowly…because once we open something up, we find something else we need to fix first…

I take the slow road when I cook. sometimes i’ll take a short-cut, like using store-bought cake mix, but then i make it really wonderful by making my own frosting. there are a couple non-negotiables for me: i hate jarred garlic/ginger (it’s SO easy to chop your own, and jarred ginger has added HFCS) and store-bought shredded cheese (it is covered in cornstarch and other preservatives; shredding it yourself tastes SO much better).
