Fab Freebie: A Taste Of India

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’d heard of the “slow food movement” before, but not the “slow clothes movement” – until this week’s giveaway sponsor reached out to us. Saffron Marigold creates luxury Indian linens, and they make each tablecloth, bedspread, curtain and pillow cover very meticulously (both to safeguard traditional techniques and deliver a high quality finished product). Just think, all of these patterns have been meticulously hand-printed inch-by-inch using traditional woodblock techniques in Saffron Marigold’s Indian artisan studios. Pretty fantastic, eh?

Saffron Table Cloths

And this week TWO of you are going to have a chance to enjoy TWO pieces of these slowly and beautifully made linens in your home. Each winner will get their choice of a lovely tablecloth or table runner…

Saffron Table Runners

…and their choice of a gorgeous and graphic cushion cover.

Saffron Cushion Covers

And while you’re over on their site browsing their stunning designs, be sure to check out the photo slideshow of their time-intensive process which details how they create all the unbelievably intricate patterns. It will truly give you an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into these prizes. And you’ll also soon get to appreciate a sweet discount they’re dishing out (stay tuned for those details on Thursday).

Saffron Process

So here’s the gist:

  • PRIZE: Your choice of any  tablecloth or table runner from Saffron Marigold, plus one cushion cover.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MARIGOLD ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us something that you feel is always better when you take your time. Maybe you agree with the slow food or slow clothes movement? Or you prefer to give lots of time to painting or a DIY project? Perhaps you’re just a slow and very careful driver?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 9nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the WORLD!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

University essays… I’m soooo close to handing in my last one for the semester, and dying to get rid of it, but it’s not due till Thursday and I should really really really try to keep editing and proofreading – although I wanted to hand it in as soon as the last sentence was written yesterday…:)

MARIGOLD ME! These are gorgeous! We have sort of a transitional style with an Asian flair, so these would be right up our alley! I love how gardening makes me slow down and enjoy the process. I always seem to enjoy the produce I grow a lot more than stuff I pick up at the store.

    MARIGOLD ME! PLEASE?!

I play slowly with my nephews (3 and 6) because I don’t get as much time with them as I’d like. Even if the games are repetitive or boring, I love every minute with them because I realize these moments are fleeting…and it’s my way of slowing them down!

MARIGOLD ME! A while back one of your readers posted a comment about a painted carpet so I took that idea and painted my own for our porch! It wasn’t difficult but it took FOREVER but it was totally worth it! If you’re interested, I’ve blogged about it here: http://clkbyhand.wordpress.com/2010/05/20/diy-moroccan-style-rug/

    Marigold Me! :)

I’m an apparel designer and I find that the conceptual sketching process is something that I love to take my time with! Researching, brainstorming, writing notes in the margins of books and waking up in the middle of the night to sketch a garment idea makes me happy! Creativity should always be nurtured and I think if you start with a great idea, you’ll end up with an even better product!

    MARIGOLD ME!

So first, these are just beautiful. I took a class in college called batik, which is similar to this process, except it uses waxes to separate colors. Anyways, it takes just as long, and in some cases, maybe even longer. I love it because at the end of it, you have this beautiful textile that has so much depth due to all the layers of dyes and waxes. So I suppose that would be what I like that is worth the wait.

And I have such a deep appreciation for things that where created by hand, using traditional methods. Its just something that you don’t see a lot of these days, and when you have the chance to own something like that, you know you will cherish it for a long time.
