Fab Freebie: A Room With The View

If any of you are addicted to The View, Thom Filicia or Kimberly-Clark products then you probably already know what I’m about to say. The three have teamed up for a Room-A-Day Giveaway where 16 lucky winners will be chosen to receive $25,000 (!!!) to transform a space in their home. They announced the first winner today on The View, but you can still enter once-a-day here until March 6th for your chance to take home the cold hard cash.

And while we can’t help you win the 25k, we do have a special prize to give away right here: a copy of Thom Filicia’s latest book, Thom Filicia Style, along an eco-friendly bag filled with a slew of Kimberly-Clark products (think Kleenex, Cottonelle, Scott, Huggies, etc).

thomfeliciastylecover

You may know Thom from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, or his current show (a Sherry favorite) Dress My Nest.

To enter to win Thom Filicia’s amazing new book and the eco-bag of Kimberly-Clark goodies, just comment on this post with the words “BOOK ME” by Wednesday, Feb 4th at 8pm EST. And while you’re at it, why not tell us what room you’d make over in your home if you won the grand prize.

We’ll announce one, randomly chosen winner by the end of the week. And don’t forget to enter to win the grand prize over at the Room-A-Day Giveaway while you’re at it. Good luck everyone!

New to our giveaways? Find out all about them here.

    BOOK ME!! Please!

If I could make over one room in my (future) house it would definitely have to be the kitchen. As one of the most visible and frequented rooms I would like to have a nice kitchen. I would start off by rehabbing the cabinets by either painting them or re-staining them along with some groovy new hardware. I would then move on to the counter tops by using concrete counter tops with recycled materials in them. After the counter tops I would move onto the appliances. Stainless steel would be great and if I was lucky I would throw in a gas Viking range. As for the sink I would make a trip to Caravati’s or Governor’s Antiques to find an old sink which I would sandblast and recover. After that it would be the floors. I would either use bamboo or floors from an old building. I would definitely make sure that there was plenty of natural lighting to brighten up the space. Lastly I would paint the walls a nice color to bring everything together.

I think with a whopping $25 grand, I’d make over my kitchen, and maybe replace my tile floors with hardwood! Those things are not even really on the radar yet (I sound like broken record, but we are finishing a gigantic basement by ourselves, one Sunday at a time) so very few other things have even made the list yet (our bedroom and the kids’ playroom are the next on the list).

Book me!! Kitchen–absolutely the kitchen. Mine is a 15 YO manufactured home — the kitchen is horrid with dropped ceiling and fluorescent lighting, economy-line appliances, faux wood cabeints (imagine wrapping the cabinet boxes in faux-wood contact paper!) and overhead peninsula cabinets that block the line of sight out to my spectacular wooded view. And don’t get me started on the countertops!! As bad as you can image the cabinets are, go one step beyond and you’ve got the counters.
