Best Spam Comment Ever

Every day we get about fifty spam comments that promise everything from naked pictures of Lady GaGa to free payday loans (all of which get caught in a spam filter and then get deleted). This one (left on our Pulling Out The Rug post by “Lexus Dealer”) made me snort. As far as spam comments go, it’s definitely more entertaining than most.

I really like how some spam is really positive. Like “This writing is top notch” (who says “top notch” anymore, besides spam?). And “This is the best I’ve read on this subject” when it’s an update on our dining room project (I hope no one else is posting new photos of the inside of our home….). Of course, then there are the nasty ones too, but the positive, chirpy ones are kind of funny. I still don’t post them.

A-mazing. That’s the funniest I’ve ever seen! I get some awfully random spam comments and it makes me wonder, is it actually worth the spammer’s time? Who really approves comments about free loans and easy money?? And who clicks on them!

The fact that it was “sent via Blackberry” makes you wonder if they were currently pondering their chocolate bar eating on the toilet, while actually on the toilet. Hmm…

That is hilarious. Like, “trying not to laugh too hard b/c my newborn is sleeping on my chest” kinda funny.

I am totally naive, though. What does one gain from posting such a thing as a comment on a message board? Why bother? I get the loan and drugs ones – they want to make money. What does Mr. Toilet Eater stand to gain?

      Hey Beth,

We’ll admit we’re not spam pros but we believe they want people to click their comment URL to learn more (and they make money from the clicks with ads). Maybe the spanner has learned that crazy comments like that get noticed, and therefore get more clicks? Dunno.

I was just thinking about how much work that you guys must do behind the scenes (like setting up spam filters and reviewing comments, etc) and was wondering if you could hire a high school or college intern to help you guys out. A lot of interns don’t get paid and are just grateful for the opportunity and you guys certainly have a pretty good gig going that I bet people would be knocking down the door for an opportunity.

Why is it I get prompts to make *ahem* bits bigger, or please my ladies better? Both options I doubt my husband would appreciate me partaking in.
