We love witnessing the Young House Love ripple effect firsthand, so when two of our lovely readers sent us pics of their very own transformations we couldn’t have been more excited.
So without further ado here’s Erin’s new CB2 pendant hanging proudly above her dining area. She went with the green version of the linen colored light fixture that we hung above our very own dining room table. Perfect, no?
Elvira in DC also sent us a few pictures of her fantastic front door transformation. Here’s her entryway before a little color intervention:
And her punchy new door thanks to a few glossy coats of Fabulous Red- the same Valspar hue that we used to makeover our brick rancher’s front door. What a difference a little paint can make.

I’m looking to get a pendant light very similar in BRIGHT red for my dining room. I just love the shape!!
I love the cb2 pendant and I have thought long and hard about getting my own but here’s the sticking point….how do you know if the shade is the right scale for the table? My table is larger than the ones that have been shown and I worry that the pendant will look rinky dinky above it… So how do you know? Or what if I purchased two and hung them side by side? And what about height? I don’t know if it’s the angle of the pics or what…but I think I would hang the pendant lower…am I wrong? How do you know? gosh I’m full of questions today! :o)
I love that pendant. Could I just confess here that I also got one? I will send pics as soon as it is up. I am thrilled to see my front door here! I have to say, it makes me happy every day to see my door.
Plus I will also be sending pics of my living room that is slightly based on one of your design dilemma mood boards. I need to wait for my Pottery Barn rug which is back-ordered until July 14! :-(

Jackie- We did a little research before we hung our pendant and learned that it’s common to hang it 30-34″ above the surface of the table (ours is 34″). Erin’s light looks to be about the same distance from the table as ours, but since it’s a subjective science, you can always do 30″ as opposed to 34″ (or even go lower and see how it looks). Better than rules are your own eyes, so if it looks too high or two low just use your instincts and make the adjustment. And I think the idea of purchasing two pendants and hanging them side by side over a more substantial table is a great idea! In fact I’m excited just thinking about it. Just be sure to hang them at exactly the same height so they don’t look wonky! And then send us some photos!
Underwood- So excited for so many reasons. The idea of seeing pics of your new light fixture is titillating, and feasting my eyes on your new living room sounds fantabulous! the first picture is GORGEOUS!!!!! i absolutely love everything about it.. I’m curious what is the name (color) of the paint? It looks like to me, paleish yellow, butter yellow? What brand?

Very nice! They look great. Really love that red door. I’d be so tempted to paint my front door red, too, if I didn’t have green shutters. I like Christmas, but I couldn’t handle it all-year ’round. -Julia ;-)
Thank you for posting my kitchen nook, I’m so glad we took your advice and went with the CB2 pendant! For Gina- the paint color is Ralph Lauren Tangier Island, and it a soft yellow tan. I realized I should have included a before picture, so this picture goes back about 3 years when we first moved in:

Sherry, I absolutely love this pendant lamp, but one question: is yours plugged into the wall? Or did you have it wired into an existing fixture?! We recently purchased one and it came as a plug-in fixture (as stated on the website) but I don’t know how I feel about having a cord running across the dining room ceiling to an outlet on the wall…

We actually talked to the people at West Elm and learned that you can cut the cord to reveal two internal wires that can be connected to any ceiling fixture box, so for $100 we got an electrician to pop a fixture box above our table and hang it as a hardwired fixture. Voilà, instant dining room! Just be sure not to cut the cord too short, so it hangs around 34″ above the tabletop. Hope it helps!
