As bloggers we answer plenty of questions (especially when they have to do with painting cabinets, upholstering headboards and hanging art). But we wanted to take some time out of this week’s blogiversary extravaganza to answer a different breed of question: the personal one. Taking a cue from some of our other favorite bloggers who opened themselves up to a little Q & A, we recently asked our readers on Facebook and Twitter to ask us anything, particularly things not about home improvement or the blog.
We ended up with some familiar queries (“will you two just have a baby already?” “have you been approached for a TV show?”) and some unexpected ones too (“do you ever swear?” “who is the messy one?”). Needless to say, they all kept us chattering away. Here’s a video all about the art arrangements in our house, including the stuff hanging behind us in this video (most of which we made ourselves at Kinkos (like the big P monogram), printed at CVS (like a few of the family photos), or just tossed into a frame (like the photostrips from our wedding). That’s actually a sketch of our land that we inherited when we signed the mortgage three years ago. It cracks us up because the lot is huge (almost an acre) so our little house looks just about big enough for a family of mice (soooo tiny). Hope it helps!

Wish I could enjoy the video… No captions.. Do you think you could whip up a transcript, maybe? For those of us who are deaf :) or even captions, if you have the time – all video editing software have a captioning feature of some kind.

1) Sherry, where do you get most of your pretty gold earrings? Especially the ones on the road trip (the drop shaped ones) and the ones in this video?
2) What kind of video camera do you use?
3) What program do you use to piece together your videos? Is it a hard program because I’d like to try it myself.

Almost all the earrings I own (including the two sets you mention) hail from Target- what can’t that store do? As for our video camera, it’s a Flip Mino (purchased on sale on woot.com but you can find them at Target or on amazon.com on sale). As for editing we use iMovie ’09 which came with our MacBook. Hope it helps!

Hello, love this site by the way. One question is all I have for you guys. Do you change your decor from season to season? I change around and add new things about every 6 months. But that’s just me, I was wondering if there are any other crazy people like me out there. I usually redo a whole room from curtains to rug to pictures. Is that normal or over the top?

Oh, and as a mom of two young kids – I think you’re smart to wait. Having kids changes a lot of things (for example, I always see your great IKEA shelves in your dining room and picture my youngest using them as a ladder). It’s an awesome experience, but having kids and having a picture perfect house do not typically go together. However, I am excited to see all the how-to-do-this-with-kids type posts I envision you doing when you get to that point!

We actually used to carry magazine monograms (like the P pictured behind us) in our shop, but unfortunately everything in there is limited edition so they’ve come and gone. Good question! See, Burger’s not so good with other dogs. We try and try but they just stress him out and his little tail is permanently tucked under his belly. Sometimes he even whines- and, dare I say it- wets himself with fright. Such a sad sight! We do feel lucky that because I get to work from home at least he has some company all day and doesn’t seem too lonely (he loves chasing his friends the squirrels around the backyard for the better part of the afternoon). So for now he’s an only child, but who knows what the future holds…

I also hate the whole “when are you going to have a baby” question. The only people who aren’t on our case about it are my parents. That’s just because they feel they are too young for grandchildren. They say the grandpets will do for now!
