Our Kitchen Cabinet Knobs Are Eyeballs

Something about the knobs in our kitchen make us feel like we’re being watched.

Eyeballs Before

Maybe you don’t see it, but after staring at them for the last few weeks, they’re starting to look a little something like this to us:

Eyeballs After

My favorite is the pirate.

But something’s definitely going to have to be done sooner or later. We feel like we’re living in that crazy Geico commercial – only without the good fortune of a stack of money sitting nearby (with some techno music blaring in the background). Speaking of which, we highly recommend playing the Geico commercial below while looking at the picture above. It really enhances the whole experience.

Now we can’t eat breakfast without singing “Somebody’s watching meeeeeeee.”

    So true!!

BTW, at first I thought YOU had captioned that video. Funny how I “know” you well enough to quickly realize it wasn’t. Unless there’s a side of you we don’t know…

So sad that you call this the Geico song! This is such a classic/hilarious 80’s tune by Rockwell (son of Barry Gordy) with chorus sung by Michael Jackson. Plus, the original video is basically a house tour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YvAYIJSSZY.

Hi John and Sherry! So it’s Saturday around 7EST and and I was getting ready to browse around houzz.com. Michelle Hinckley’s blog, Three Men and A Lady, one that I check regularly, is one of the featured Ideabooks. As pictures from her blog are flashing by, what should I see pinned to a beautiful bulletin board she created but a picture of your old master bedroom! I doubled checked, just to be sure, and there it was, you old room!! A blog in a blog in a blog!!! I just thought that was cool!

Oh, and this song might be an alternative if the geico song ever gets boring:

Yeah, all those ‘eyes’ are enough to spark some paranoia! I’m so happy to hear that we aren’t the only ones with “boob” lights in our place. We have two in the entry way and they are so, so wrong. And, yet, we haven’t done anything about the “twins” yet.

    bahahaha that’s really funny!

that kitchen is so ugly, and clearly not your style, because it’s nothing like the last house! Don’t waste money on new knobs before you rip that awful oak out. :P

p.s. what you did with your dining room shelves is a beautiful idea, i just never commented before!

The door knob of your cabinets looked like they are staring your every move and everywhere you go! Eyes everywhere. Maybe a change of color will make it look different.:

Today, as I was washing the dishes, I looked over and saw two eyeballs staring at me. Then I looked the other way, and I saw one eyeball and thought of the pirate. As if on cue, the music in my head started playing, “I always feel like somebody’s watching meeee…”

Yep, I have the same knobs. They’re on the cabinets I hate in the kitchen I loathe (primarily due to the rooster/chicken themed border, with matching wallpaper that looks like it’s moving if you stare at it too long). One day those stinkin’ chickens are coming down!

In the meantime, I have something new to obsess over in my kitchen. :)

    Hello, I love your blog!
Oh my gosh, your post mentioning the knobs reminded me – our 2 year old daughter kept having bad dreams and telling us they were about “the lookin’ things” and we were clueless as to what she could possibly have been scared about. Well, one night before bed, months later, we got out a Sesame Street book, turned a page where there was a picture of a nightstand with those same knobs you had, and Maddie shrieked “THE LOOKIN’ THINGS! NOOOOO”. Mystery solved. Evil knobs!
