Painting Subtle Wall Stripes and Stenciling A Bathroom Floor

When our bloggy friend Roeshel sent over her bathroom makeover it was love at first sight. Here’s her letter:

I’d love to submit my bathroom makeover for a reader redesign. Thank you so much for the inspiration! The entire project cost just $512 and I really love the outcome. The ceiling paint, primer and trim and door paint were free (we already had it from previous projects) and the wall paint is Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter and Nimbus (color matched to Valspar’s Signature paint). The lighting was from Lighting Direct and the oval vanity mirror came from Lowe’s. I painted the floor myself with Valspar Porch and Floor Paint in “Journey” and some Benjamin Moore “Smoke Embers” paint I already had (using two of the same Elegant Bracket Stencils). Then I sealed it with Minwax water based polyurethane (which WILL yellow light-colored paint). Oh and I got the Extra long White Waffle shower curtain at Target and used Rustoleum spray primer and oil rubbed bronze spray paint and spray lacquer for the faucets. Of course you can check out all the details over on my blog (for example, the floor painting project can be found right here). ~Roeshel

Here’s what the bathroom looked like before Roeshel worked her DIY magic:

Bathroom RR Before2

And here’s the amazing (and wallet-friendly) after:

Bathroom RR Painted Floors

Bathroom RR Floor Paint

Isn’t that breathtaking? Of course we love the horizontal stripes that she added to those walls (check out our subtle wall stripe tutorial right here) and that painted floor is nothing short of amazing. What do you guys think? Didn’t Roeshel do a stellar job in here? What’s your favorite part? We’re torn between that fantastic stenciled floor and the soft clean color combo of the white trim and pedestal sink layered on top of those tone on tone walls. Yummy.

I am super impressed with that floor! Amazing! The whole color scheme is so elegant yet peaceful. I would be afraid to paint faucets for fear the finish wouldn’t hold up, do ya’ll have any experience with that?

      Hey Alicia,

We’ve never sprayed any of our fixtures but we’d be interested to hear from Roeshel in a while about how everything held up. It sounds like she really did her research and used not only a paint but a sealer so we’re hoping they last for the long haul!

That floor is gorgeous! And I love the tone-on-tone walls. Will definitely borrow that sometime. Such a sophisticated look to that bathroom now. Good job!

I adore this floor. I’m not sure I would ever want to take on such a task…but it looks amazing! Think Roeshel would offer up her services? :)

It looks amazing! I forgot about the painted floor for a second and thought that was a rug! Roeshel really went above and beyond. I love that she worked with what she had and didn’t splash out for all new fixtures and flooring. Maybe these photos and Roeshels updates on how her floor holds up (plus the YHL sunroom and basement floors, of course)will finally convince my fiance to let me paint the floor in our basement…

Wow – great job on a shoestring!

I would love to hear about how your faucets hold up as well – I have a few that are working fine but the chrome is worn or discoloured greenish…. (any tips on getting that off??) but am nervous about painting something that is handled so much and has moving parts…..

Wow! I have never heard of anyone painting the faucets before! What are the steps involved? Just primer, paint, and seal? I would love more info about that, anyone? Great bathroom!
