Fab Freebie: Supper Management

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

If you’re a busy mom like me – wait, let me start over. If you’re like me and hate grocery shopping, then this week’s giveaway is totally up your aisle. I’ve learned to enjoy cooking, but the chore of making a list, bleeding money at the grocery store and then coming home to find you’ve forgotten the cardamom still drives us to take-out more than we’d like. So imagine my delight when You’ve Got Supper entered our lives.

YouveGotSupper List

YGS was started by two busy moms right here in Richmond (holla) and basically does your weekly recipe planning AND grocery list making for you (double holla). Just sign up for their free weekly email for five easy recipe suggestions. Pick the ones you want to make (or add others from their archive) and YGS automatically generates a complete, printable shopping list for you. Basically, my lifesaver. And this week they’re giving away $100 in groceries to one of our lucky readers who just might need some lifesaving in the kitchen too.

We’ve been using them for a while now, and just last week we made three of their meals that we never tried before: Honey Chicken Kebabs, One-Pot Pork Tenderloin and Crispy Potatoes and Creamy Dreamy Mac and Cheese. Here’s that mac and cheese making Burger wish he were human:

YouveGotSupper Burger

And now for this week’s giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 gift card to the grocery store of your choice courtesy of You’ve Got Supper
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I WANT SUPPER” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us your favorite way to mix things up for dinner. Is it the classic breakfast for dinner? Or maybe a recipe swap with the neighbors. Or, our favorite, going over someone else’s house so they do the cooking.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the whole wide world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I WANT SUPPER!! allrecipes.com is a great site; all you do is plug in one or more ingredients (you can also specify ingredients you don’t want) and it generates bunches of recipes for you to try. I also feel like a super hero when that “there’s no food in this house” situation drives me to some really creative use of seemingly random items! It’s usually pretty good, but not always easy to duplicate…

I will definately use this site, my fiance and I love to cook, but the grocery list is the downer! We mix dinner up all the time because we have dinners planned at the beginning of the week, but always mix and match entrees and sides. It’s interesting.. haha

I am single and have a few single friends, so we often do potluck where someone brings the appetizer, the main dish, and the dessert so we all get a meal out of it without too many leftovers.

This sounds like an awesome website and I can’t wait to try it out.

To spice up our weekly meal plans, we’ve started designating certain days of the week for certain types of things. A couple of times a month we’ll have Taco Tuesdays or Pizza Thursday (with delicious homemade crust and new toppings) or Wok Wednesdays (OK, that’s a new one, and we don’t exactly have a wok, but we’re digging various stirfrys and figure the dish deserves it’s own day).

I’m a fan of casseroles and stews … They are usually easy to make andy you can make a LOT and have left overs. Maybe when my masters is done I will think differently and more creatively, but until then …

    I WANT SUPPER! :o)

This is my first attempt at entering a contest on this site, although I’ve been a daily reader for months! My hubby and I enjoy ‘ethnic’ foods, so when ready for a change we try our hand at Indian cuisine, Italian, and our all time favorite ‘south of the border’ Latin-type foods. I have a few Mexican and Indian cookbooks, so that helps to locate ideas.

My fav thing to do is make an “everything” marinara sauce using up all the veggies and even meats that we have leftover in the fridge. I started doing this when i was a poor study abroad student in florence…I once threw in hot dogs and carrots and it tasted great. to me and my roommate at least!

    “I WANT SUPPER”

The way I usually mix things up for dinner is “create” a new dish from what’s in the fridge and cabinets. I’ve created a few that were a hit and the family asked for me to make again but I’also made a few that made them say “What the heck?!” LOL Anwyay, If all else fails, we order out! ;)

P.S. I too hate shopping so I often order online and have my groceries delivered (Peapod.com by Giant) but that too requires thinking about what to cook and making lists. So I think I just might have to give youvegotsupper.com a try.

    Great Post, Thanks!

I’ve recently discovered that I love roasted vegetables with any meal (sometimes that IS the meal) – my favorites include cauliflower, broccoli, and sweet potatoes! I just put it chopped up in a roasting pan, put some olive oil and salt and pepper on top and roast in the 375 degree oven for 30-40 minutes – mmmm it’s delicious!

I am trying to plan weekly meals when I can – I always try to fit in one crockpot meal and one casserole that I can prepare the night before, which can just be tossed in the oven on a busy night when we don’t have time to cook when we get home from work.

    I WANT SUPPER

My favortie thing for supper is quite simple. I live in Germany. In Germany we dont eat warm suppers, that has to do with the fact, that kids mostly come home for lunch after school, so suppers arent usually warm.
We normally have bread (not toast, healthy bread) and a salad and then some fruit. Simple but good. We have different kinds of cheese, salami, ham, honey or whatever so every night we can eat what we feel like having!! And we also have like 5 different salad dressings we make to spice things up ;)

    I WANT SUPPER!!

I do a lot of internet meal searches. I have food allergies, so I am constantly changing things up and swapping out items to make things I can eat. My hubby is a foodie, so I always have a challenge of giving him new eats. The internet is my friend there…especially with the cost of cookbooks. I would LOVE this cash to make up some more creative meals…or maybe to make a little flex in the budget for an exciting meal out to reall change it up!

When we need to mix things up, we choose a type of food (something a little exotic and new to us) and to a recipe search online. We’ve made sushi and miso soup, moraccan chicken and glazed carrots and couscous, Italian soups… It can be so fun! My go-to easy recipe is beef stew, my guy LOVES it!

I WANT SUPPER! We mix it up in a few ways: 1. I try to make one new recipe a week so we don’t get bored with the same meals. 2. We use the crockpot A LOT! Dinner is done when we get home- with no work involved. Plus, you can buy inexpensive cuts of meat and they still turn out great! 3. Sometimes, we’ll just make a bunch of snacks (Zesty Mini Meatballs, Spinach & artichoke dip, Bacon wrapped Little Smokies, etc and have our own little party!

I WANT SUPPER! Sad to say, my husband and I eat very quick, easy stuff most of the time. Luckily, it’s not hamburger helper! My favorite weeknight dinner is Trader Joe’s frozen burritos, nuked with green salsa and cheese on top. If we’re feeling ambitious, we hunt down actual white queso. I cook for real maybe twice a week.
