Fab Freebie: Supper Management

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

If you’re a busy mom like me – wait, let me start over. If you’re like me and hate grocery shopping, then this week’s giveaway is totally up your aisle. I’ve learned to enjoy cooking, but the chore of making a list, bleeding money at the grocery store and then coming home to find you’ve forgotten the cardamom still drives us to take-out more than we’d like. So imagine my delight when You’ve Got Supper entered our lives.

YouveGotSupper List

YGS was started by two busy moms right here in Richmond (holla) and basically does your weekly recipe planning AND grocery list making for you (double holla). Just sign up for their free weekly email for five easy recipe suggestions. Pick the ones you want to make (or add others from their archive) and YGS automatically generates a complete, printable shopping list for you. Basically, my lifesaver. And this week they’re giving away $100 in groceries to one of our lucky readers who just might need some lifesaving in the kitchen too.

We’ve been using them for a while now, and just last week we made three of their meals that we never tried before: Honey Chicken Kebabs, One-Pot Pork Tenderloin and Crispy Potatoes and Creamy Dreamy Mac and Cheese. Here’s that mac and cheese making Burger wish he were human:

YouveGotSupper Burger

And now for this week’s giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 gift card to the grocery store of your choice courtesy of You’ve Got Supper
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I WANT SUPPER” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us your favorite way to mix things up for dinner. Is it the classic breakfast for dinner? Or maybe a recipe swap with the neighbors. Or, our favorite, going over someone else’s house so they do the cooking.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the whole wide world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    I WANT SUPPER!

    Pretty please…

Every year our friends get together between Thanksgiving and Christmas for our annual “Thanxmas” event. Everyone brings a different dish to the feast. It’s a great way to learn new recipes!

I absolutely love cooking, but I must say, I always seem to go grocery shopping when I am STARVING and end up buying a bunch of stuff that I have no idea what to do with the next day!

My husband is the cook in the family, so he would be better equipped to answer this question. He is really good at whipping up some dinner with whatever we have on hand-sans recipe!

    I WANT SUPPER!

Every Friday night, we switch off with another couple. When we go to their house, we bring dessert and a game and they make dinner. The next week we switch. They are pretty open to anything so it’s a great way to test new recipes on each other.

We like to get together with friends for a pot luck meal. That way, no one is stuck putting together the whole meal and everyone can show off a dish they made.

We mix it up by trying to make our favorite ethnic dish at home instead of getting takeout. Now we find Lamb Saag way too easy to make to order at the restaurant!

I WANT SUPPER. I’m a creature of habit so this year I’ve been making one new thing every month. Searching for the recipes is my favorite part, which means I just need to find someone to cook for me :)

We mix it up by having backwards night, meaning dessert first and so on. The kids love this.

We use the crockpot at least 2 days a week so that when we get home from a busy day and want to spend our time with our 2 boys under 3, dinner is already made.

I mix it up by going to Foodnetwork dot com and doing a quick search for something ethnic and easy that I don’t have to buy a bunch of stuff to make. I don’t cook ethnic very much at all. So this week… egg drop soup. Super easy.

I cook for my friends on Wednesday nights. They come to hang out and watch America’s Next Top model. They bring the desserts and help with the dishes! It gets me to be more creative in the kitchen than the rice and broccoli I make myself when there’s no one to cook for!

    I WANT SUPPER!

We’ve been mixing things up lately by going to “Mom’s Diner” once a week! We love to spend time with family, we all get some good food, and my husband and I get the chance to contribute to a “real” (you know, like with that whole “balanced diet” thing in mind) YUMMY meal (instead of just having weird concoctions like peanut butter sandwiches and canned pineapple).

My way of changing things up is alternating making new dish every two weeks with one of my good friends. I cook for her once a month, and she cooks for me. We try dishes, and give eachother our thoughts on how to make it better. We are eachother’s guinea pigs!

Posts like this always make me hungry… My favorite way to use my leftovers is to make pizza with them. I use either whole wheat pitas or flatbread as the crust and doctor them up with whatever is left over in the fridge – with a heavy dose of cheese, of course. Pesto and shrimp to Mexican fajitas – it all tastes good on pizza!
