Fab Freebie: Supper Management

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

If you’re a busy mom like me – wait, let me start over. If you’re like me and hate grocery shopping, then this week’s giveaway is totally up your aisle. I’ve learned to enjoy cooking, but the chore of making a list, bleeding money at the grocery store and then coming home to find you’ve forgotten the cardamom still drives us to take-out more than we’d like. So imagine my delight when You’ve Got Supper entered our lives.

YouveGotSupper List

YGS was started by two busy moms right here in Richmond (holla) and basically does your weekly recipe planning AND grocery list making for you (double holla). Just sign up for their free weekly email for five easy recipe suggestions. Pick the ones you want to make (or add others from their archive) and YGS automatically generates a complete, printable shopping list for you. Basically, my lifesaver. And this week they’re giving away $100 in groceries to one of our lucky readers who just might need some lifesaving in the kitchen too.

We’ve been using them for a while now, and just last week we made three of their meals that we never tried before: Honey Chicken Kebabs, One-Pot Pork Tenderloin and Crispy Potatoes and Creamy Dreamy Mac and Cheese. Here’s that mac and cheese making Burger wish he were human:

YouveGotSupper Burger

And now for this week’s giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 gift card to the grocery store of your choice courtesy of You’ve Got Supper
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I WANT SUPPER” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us your favorite way to mix things up for dinner. Is it the classic breakfast for dinner? Or maybe a recipe swap with the neighbors. Or, our favorite, going over someone else’s house so they do the cooking.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the whole wide world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I WANT SUPPER! I DO love me some breakfast for dinner. Lately though, I’ve been making extra of whatever my husband and I have for dinner and having it for lunch at work the next day. Yummy and saves a lot of $$ (even salads in NYC are like $10!)

As for mixing things up for dinner — I usually end up throwing together whatever we have on hand (can you tell that You’ve Got Supper is right up my alley?). It works out 99.9% of the time, but that other .1%? Takeout.

I love food, and it always tastes better when someones else makes it…which is why I love to have friends over and try out new dishes on them (I know, not the safest idea). Since we have 5 kiddos and rarely get invited to dinner (hello…7 extra people to feed!) I try to invite other larger families for these special meals.

My go-to fave is crock pot chicken. There’s nothing like putting it on in the morning and coming home to a home cooked meal with minimal effort!

    I WANT SUPPER

When my boyfriend and I go out, we order appetizers for each other. We both have our food comfort zones, and when we order for each other we find new dishes we like and laugh at the faces we make when we taste dishes we don’t like. Either way it’s fun.

    I want supper!

This fall, my family (me, husband and 18 mo old daughter) and our friends’ family (mom, dad, 3 yr old and 18 mo old) decided that our traditional “Monday Night Football” invites were not working anymore (thanks, kids! :) ). We decided to meet for dinner every other week at eachothers house were the host family was in charge of dinner. THAT’s my favorite dinner of the week…even if we are hosting, it means we share it with friends for the evening.

    I WANT SUPPER!

I didn’t grow up in a household that did much cooking from scratch so now I’m always trying to learn, and I really enjoy it!

My favorite thing is that each month my girlfriends and I hold a potluck with a different theme. It inspires us all to try new recipes for each other and is always crazy. This month is a “celebrity-inspired dish”. Past months have included: foods representing your heritage, foods starting with your initials, food showing your appreciation for someone, ect. Anyway it’s a fun way to mix up the cooking.

I want supper! I let nature dictate our meals by getting what looks good at our Farmer’s Market, or using what we get in our Good Food Box (our CSA) during non-Farmer’s Market months. When you start with delicious, wholesome food, it’s good no matter how you prepare it!

    I Want Supper!!

I love to cook, and can never leave a recipe alone. I usually find 1 or 2 recipes I like as inspiration, then change it up depending on the ingredients I have. I also have a tendency not to measure things (unless I’m baking), so far no major disasters. The only problem is, if it turns out great, I can never quite make it the same.

    I WANT SUPPER!

Here’s our super unorganized approach to grocery shopping and cooking dinner: Without planning meals for the week or even making a grocery list, we go to the store, and start filling our cart with things that look good. We try to plan our meals as we walk the aisles, but with no list to go by, we end up forgetting ingredients and add too many unneeded groceries (because at the time, I really WANTED three different flavors of Pop-Tarts). By the time we get home, we’ve spent $150 on food, and still don’t have all the ingredients for a full meal. So we go back the next day to pick up the forgotten food and spend another $50.

Our favorite way to mix it up is to use only items we have at home already – no running to the store for extra ingredients. It’s amazing how creative and delicious dinner can be when you only use what you’ve got on hand.

I want supper! I love to cook but our fav go to when we haven’t been to the grocery store, don’t feel like cooking, or after an unexpected long day at work is grilled cheese and tomato soup. Of course we’ve improved on the contents of this dinner… not the condensed, but the organic roast tomato soup with a delicious gooey cheese and thick french bread version is where it’s at! The boyfriend still likes to add gold fish to his though, sometimes:)

I WANT SUPPER — We’re pretty humdrum in the kitchen during the week. We’ve got a handfull of easy 15 minute/healthy meals that we use pretty much every week and we only mix it up if I find a new one (15 minutes and healthy are hard to come by) or when we go out to dinner on Fridays!

To change things up I head on over to http://www.foodnetwork.com, type in the word of something I already have (weather it be groung turkey, shrimp, etc.) and find a recipe that fits some of the stuff I already have (like pasta). Most of the times it works out, and if it doesn’t, then it’s carry out. :)

Like that it is called supper, not dinner. That is my preferred vernacular for an evening meal. I like to get a free range locally raised chicken and make it last for several meals. I roast it, which is easy and delicious then I make a stock out of the bones, and then we have a week of chicken sandwichs for lunch, chicken noodle soup, and stirfry. So even though it is more expensive to buy a local organic whole bird, it just keeps on giving and is actually pretty economical
