Fab Freebie: Supper Management

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

If you’re a busy mom like me – wait, let me start over. If you’re like me and hate grocery shopping, then this week’s giveaway is totally up your aisle. I’ve learned to enjoy cooking, but the chore of making a list, bleeding money at the grocery store and then coming home to find you’ve forgotten the cardamom still drives us to take-out more than we’d like. So imagine my delight when You’ve Got Supper entered our lives.

YouveGotSupper List

YGS was started by two busy moms right here in Richmond (holla) and basically does your weekly recipe planning AND grocery list making for you (double holla). Just sign up for their free weekly email for five easy recipe suggestions. Pick the ones you want to make (or add others from their archive) and YGS automatically generates a complete, printable shopping list for you. Basically, my lifesaver. And this week they’re giving away $100 in groceries to one of our lucky readers who just might need some lifesaving in the kitchen too.

We’ve been using them for a while now, and just last week we made three of their meals that we never tried before: Honey Chicken Kebabs, One-Pot Pork Tenderloin and Crispy Potatoes and Creamy Dreamy Mac and Cheese. Here’s that mac and cheese making Burger wish he were human:

YouveGotSupper Burger

And now for this week’s giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 gift card to the grocery store of your choice courtesy of You’ve Got Supper
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I WANT SUPPER” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us your favorite way to mix things up for dinner. Is it the classic breakfast for dinner? Or maybe a recipe swap with the neighbors. Or, our favorite, going over someone else’s house so they do the cooking.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the whole wide world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    I WANT SUPPER!

Our favorite way to mix things up for dinner is to visit any of our family members that live nearby! Nothing like getting a free meal and enjoying time with loved ones!

    I WANT SUPPER!!!

I’m one of those nerds who does a menu and grocery list every week. I don’t enjoy it, but it’s better than standing in the kitchen at 5:30 with 2 very hungry and ornery teenage boys saying “I dunno, what do you want to eat?!”

Sometimes I will make a meal just out of things I can find in the fridge, freezer and pantry. A fun way to get creative and use up food!

I WANT SUPPER! I like to double some of my recipes and freeze some for later. We like to make double (or triple) batches of spaghetti sauce, taco/burrito meat, chili, meatloaf, BBQ, and soups. In fact, I think we’ll have chili from the freezer tonight!

I like to use the steamer we rec’d as a wedding gift. It’s great bc no matter what kind of meat you have in the fridge, it can go in the steamer. We throw in sausages, chicken, fish, crab legs, etc. It also has other stackable containers so we can cook potatoes, rice and vegetables at the same time. After you turn it on, sit back and watch tv with a glass of wine. I think even Sherri could do this kind of cooking!

I like anything I can make in advance, or anything someone else cooks. My hubby is a better cook than I am, but I do the grocery shopping, so we usually have to have a meeting of the minds every week or two.

I want supper! (yummy!) we mix up dinner at our house when I do the cooking. My sweety is primary chef in our house. Every once in a blue moon we do a switcharoo and I get to man the stove! When this happens who knows what you’ll be eating for dinner!!! :)

    I WANT SUPPER, PLEASE!!!!!

I also hate to cook. I think it’s a combination of buying the groceries, inevitably forgetting something at the grocery store, wasting produce that I don’t use all of cooking for just me and my husband and one child, and the clean-up afterward.

However, I love it when I find a recipe that is easy to make, uses few ingredients, especially ones I can have on hand all the time and won’t go bad, and that my husband and I both like. It does feel nice to put a home-cooked meal on the table every once and awhile.

Okay, so after 5 minutes on that site I am already hooked. Why does it seem so much easier that it makes the grocery list for me?

I don’t get creative. I used to, before this new job of mine. I need something to fall in my lap. Like the way my mom will cook for my husband and I!

Me and my girlfriends do a once-monthly rotate house party. We all gather at a friends’ house each month and we all pitch in with dinner, wine, and we have a great time. Sometimes we dress up, other times we have a bonfire out back and carve pumpkins. It’s a way for us to stay in touch and see each other more often with our busy lives- after all, a girl’s gotta eat!

I guess my way of changing things up is to do a grilled cheese and soup night. I know that doesn’t sound like anything special but my husband complains that I don’t make the same thing twice because I’m constantly trying new things. He loves the variety but sometimes wants things more often so with a grilled cheese he gets an old favorite and I can experiment with different soups. The best of both worlds I guess.

Brinner (breakfast for dinner) and soups have been really popular lately at our house. We make a lot of single dishes that don’t necessarily go together to make a unified meal, so when we’re organized enough to plan & make an entire meal, it’s a good night.

I use cooking magazines to make my menus and grocery lists. I just pick one magazine and then use it for two weeks worth of meals. Then after two weeks I pick a different magazine. I have a couple of years worth of simple and delicious and cooking for two so I just rotate through those. So that is how I keep from making the same thing over and over. Because otherwise it would pasta every night:)
