    I’M HAUTE

While I’ve gotten many fab deals on decorating items (via Craiglist, Crate and Barrel outlet, etc), my best deal was on a baby item. I had been stalking craigslist for over a month looking for a BOB Revolution stroller, determined to not pay the ~$375 retail. Finally an ad came up for $100 and I happened to be the first to respond… I had to leave work immediately and drive 40 minutes each way to get it, but it was SO worth it. Mint condition and we’ve used it every day since. WOO HOO! A deal that helps keep me in shape AND my baby happy? Now that’s what I call a deal.

The best deal I’ve ever gotten was either getting a pair of $150 Calvin Klein heels for $23 or when I got $8,000 taken off the purchase price of my new car!

i think one of my best deals ever was when we bought all our baby gear at babies r us, with a combination of gift cards, stuff on sale, and of course those amazing bed, bath, & beyond coupons (not to mention the BRU coupons themselves) and probably saved over $1,000 and grabbed everything all in one easy fell swoop. that felt *good*

I’M HAUTE! I’ve been looking high and low for sham pillow covers that match our duvet cover. The matching shams are $50 a pop and I am too cheap to buy them! Yesterday I found two shams that are super duper close for only $5 each. Needless to say I was excited!

I’m a massage therapist, so I barter a lot. I’ve gotten several tree stumps removed, plumbing work done, discounted custom window treatments, had a risk management friend do the leg work to find homeowner’s and auto insurances policies for me, and snagged a Baltimore Ravens cooler from a bank that was only giving them to new accounts. And all it takes is 30 or 60 minutes of my time here and there!

I once bought a winter wool coat at Macy’s for $15. It didn’t have a tag on it, so we just took it to the counter because it was the one I wanted. The cashier was shocked and asked if there were any more. :O)

The best deal I have gotten was from an University. They were renovating one of the buildings, and they moved what they wanted to a new building first. Then they offered everything that was left in the building for free. I scored $2,000 worth of high end metal shelves, a huge box of chalk and black board, an expensive shop table with wheels, large amount of copper and aluminum wiring and a solid oak chair. All for free.

“IM HAUTE” My husband and I had lusted after this awsome modern coffee table in catalogs for a while. – WAY out of our price range. We were picking up a bistro table we had ordered at a local furniture shop warehouse and saw the very coffee table in the discount section (no price tag) We asked the man what they would take for it……..Hold your breath……..He said “YOU CAN HAVE IT” One of the legs was missing, otherwise perfect. My husband made new legs for it and it is always a conversation piece at our home. :)

I try to get a deal on everything. I absolutely can not pay full price. It kills me. I guess this may sound lame, but if you get really crafty with those CVS bonus bucks, coupons and sales…you can get lots of stuff for almost nothing. It always makes me feel so good about myself.

I score cheap furniture finds on Craigslist all the time. They may be second-hand, but it’s amazing what a cleaning and/or painting can do to an old piece of furniture to make it look brand new and unique.

It’s hard to say what the best deal I’ve ever snagged was (I am a serial bargain shopper), but I did get a very large solid wood dining table to seat 8-10 people for a mere $169 (our dining table at the time could seat 4, but that meant never being able to entertain guests), and not only was it significantly larger than anything I found at Ikea, but it was also WAY cheaper! And I bought it new, from a high end furniture store. I was just there to browse for inspiration, and I ended up impulse-buying a gigantic dining table! (and then having to explain that to my husband as he got off work… )

I’M HAUTE! I bought this dark red leather tote bag from The Limited at one of those mall “sidewalk” sales for $20 on sale from $100. I still use it for work sometimes. When my tupperware overturned in it once and spilled some stew, I thought it was ruined, but I figured since it was so cheap I’d try tossing it in the wash. It came out clean! I think I’ve washed it three times and it still looks great. I love that bag!

I would say my best deal was my house. I bought a 5 bedroom, 2 bathroom house for a sale price of just 69K. I recieved money from the seller, the bank and a local homebuyer program for my down payment. I spent only about $1,100 of my own money to buy the house (I actually got money back at closing). So I ended up with a 61K mortgage when it was all said in done. Now I’m paying about $400 less on my mortgage each month than what I was paying for a 2 bedroom apartment. SCORE!
