Fab Freebie: So Haute In Here

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

Who doesn’t love a sale? Especially when it’s to the tune of 50-75% off retail. Well that’s exactly how HauteLook rolls when it comes to creating 48-hour deeply discounted sales on home items (as well as clothing and beauty stuff too). A new sale pops up every morning at 11am EST, but here’s a sampling of what was up for grabs last week:

Hautelook Tiles

And one of you is gonna get $100 to spend on HauteLook this week, meaning you could snag items like an $850 graphic rug for just 80 bucks out of your own pocket. Not too shabby…

Hautelook Rugs

Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything on HauteLook.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’M HAUTE” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about the all-time best deal you’ve ever scored. Was it an incredible sale that landed you a deep discount? Or maybe you bartered your way to something for free?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 20th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

This giveaway’s random winner is… Valerie J (who’s scored a $4000 Restoration Hardware armoire for only $315 just because the top crown molding was busted). Congrats!

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from HauteLook.

The best deal I think I’ve scored is these great rugs, there were four in a set and someone returned them because they had a tiny litle snag on the side. The rugs went for 600 dollars and I bought all four for 200. :)

The best deal we ever snagged was a solid wood door – already painted white on one side, black on the other, without any holes drilled into at Lowe’s. Lowe’s doesn’t usually allow you to return wooden doors, but somehow, someone did, so they were like “How about ten bucks?”

By far the best deal I’ve ever gotten was our honeymoon package. My husband and I were part of hosting an auction for our local fire department, and one of the items was a 7 night stay in the Caribbean. Everyone knew it was for our honeymoon, so NO ONE bid against us. We ended up getting a 7 night stay in St. Lucia at an upscale resort for $80. That’s right – eighty bucks! All we had to pay was airfare and food. Even better, when we arrived at the resort, they upgraded our room to a three-floor sweet with a private pool and outdoor hot tub since it was our honeymoon. Score!!!

I’m sure I’ll think of something much better after I leave this comment, but I was quite pleased with the deal on our Ikea couch. It’s black smooth leather, exactly what we wanted, was on sale for under $400, and then my handy husband made square black wooden legs for it to replace the cheap-o metal tube/plastic capped legs it came with that didn’t even match! That small upgrade made it look like a much nicer couch – the grey metal colored legs screamed “IKEA,” but the thick black wooden legs make it look like a regular old sturdy, pricey couch, and they’ll last for years, whereas the plastic caps on the original legs snapped in half and fell of the first time we moved it across the room!

I’m Haute!!! I am always about a good deal, good value, good sale. It does pay to look around and be informed on both what is trendy and what something is “worth”. In retail language everything is marked up so much for profit…anytime you can bring the price down by about300/400% you are doing well.

I was at a boutique furniture store and saw way in the back, pushed off to the side was a chest of drawers. A couple of the knobs were missing and there was a corner on the bottom that needed repair. The original price was 500. They had it marked down to 250. I negotiated with them to bring down to 50 if it did not sell in 2 weeks and I would pay cash. I also threw in some homemade brownies. In 2 weeks I came by with the brownies and asked if they would sell and I would pack it up and take it off their hands. They did!
