Best deal I ever scored was this huge antique white hutch and console that I found at an Office Max. I bought for around $100 and they were just getting a new model in…nothing was wrong with it!

    “I’M HAUTE”

My fiance and I recently moved into our first house. In the weeks prior to moving in we were doing a lot of window shopping to try to get a feel for each others’ style/taste. We happened to be in Crate and Barrel and noticed the Sloane Leaning bookshelves and media center with a sign that priced all three pieces (the media center and two bookshelves) at $374. The same set was in the catalog for $612, so we asked what the difference was. We were told that we would have to leave our info so the store manager could make the call on whether or not we could get it for the mis-marked price (even though we never said we wanted it). Turns out we did want it, and they did give it to us for the lower price. It’s one of the most central pieces of our living room decor and fits the space beautifully. So glad we asked about it and saved ourselves $238.

I got a dress originally priced at 45ish dollars… for 3 bucks. Thaaaat’s right. It was a combination of coupons, sales and a broken strap, and I still love that dress.

I’m haute. (Well, probably not). But once I found a cedar chest on the side of the road near my folks’ house. The chest itself isn’t all that cool, but my dad helped me to resand & paint it, and so now it reminds me of a really nice day spent goofing off with my dad in his workshop.

I am a fanatic for great deals, so have gotten a lot of them! One of my most recent ones was the $50 I spent on supplies to build myself a knock-off of the West Elm overlapping squares daybed (yep, the same one in the younghouse sunroom!). I’d say $400 off is a pretty decent deal!

We recently moved out and were dreading buying a sofa in fear of cost. So we hunted for deals and even thought about the futon route, but after looking long and hard we got a sofa and love seat for FREE!!!! All we had to do was pull it out of a co workers basement so they didn’t have to. They are great!!!

Also love target bed sheets, got a $30 set on clearance for $4.88!!!

My best score was a Goodwill find. My husband and I found an old dresser for $10. We re-finished it completely (Sanded and stained!) and added new hardware. We also added a piece of marble we had found left next to a dumpster. We used it as a buffet in our dining room.

When we sold our last house, we had several people want to make an offer on just our buffet.

Needless to say we turned them down. (And sold our house:)

The best deal ever was in college – we had a huge 3 story warehouse of antiques and the third floor was ‘rough stuff’ and full of amazing and less than top condition stuff. I got a scrabble table- an end table with a rotating top and a buffet table for $5 each. A little refinishing and they’re still in our home 12 years later!

I’m Haute! My best bargain I ever bought was one that unfortunately got away. At a warehouse store I purchased a new Pottery Barn cabinet for $200 dollars. It is still being sold for $1499. The saleswoman said she would put a sold sign on it and put it in their pick-up area. When my dad went to pick it up with the rented U-haul they couldn’t find it and realized they resold it to someone else immediately after I had bought it. I obviously was refunded and given a $40 gift card but it didn’t compare to the deal I had lost. I’m still a bit sad about it! :(

My best friend’s roomie had this gorgeous, gorgeous dining room table set from Pier One. We’re talking rich, deep wood and beatiful ancient Greece-inspired engraving that ran the lenth of the table. Every time I was at their house I drooled over it.

The roommate ended up moving to a smaller place and got rid of most of his furniture. He remembered how much I loved the table, and called me before posting in on Craigslist. I jumped on the offer! The best part? He offered to give it to me. As in: free. I felt too guilty to just take it from him so I gave him 50 bucks.

It’s never left our dining room since, and I still love how gorgeous it is. Score!

The best deals I’ve scored have been in the Target baby department. The first was a gender neutral pack and play for only $19! It wasn’t on display and wasn’t marked clearance, but when we took it to that scanny thing and saw the price, we threw it in our cart real quick. When I got home, I looked it up online, and it was still selling for full price: $89! I also snagged a $69 baby monitor for $7! It wasn’t even a repackage, and I still see them selling it full price. Yeah, I’m pretty pleased with myself. :)

I’M HAUTE! As I neared graduation from college a couple years ago I was on the lookout for some grown-up bedroom furniture. Too expensive. My mom’s friend gave me a dresser from her college days (early 80s) that has a classic sleek front, 9 drawers and tapered legs. Ugly, worn finish. Stripped it, painted it (a beautiful semi-gloss dark grey) and poly-ed it! Perfect dresser. For the cost of paint, a foam brush and some sanding paper. Score.
