MILLER ME!
If I have to pick just one “classic designer”, I will go with George Nelson.
I admire the simplicity of Mid-Century Modern design and the inherent beauty that comes with that. So much so, that I curated an exhibition of Mid-Century Modern design at the art museum I work for in North Carolina.
I am not a curator for the museum on a full time basis (I actually install the exhibits), but I do love Mid-Century Modern design and wanted to share the things I had learned about mid-20th century modernism, as well as the designers of the NC State University School of Design (started in 1948 and now called the NC State College of Design). It was the forefathers of this school (Henry Kamphoefner, Matthew Nowicki, George Matsumoto, Buckminster Fuller, Edwardo Catalano, etc.) that really piqued my interest in this design aesthetic.
In this exhibit I put together, I displayed George Nelson, Mies Van der Rhoe, Ray and Charles Eames, Cristian Dior, George Nakashima, Russel Wright, Herbert Von Thaden and Donald Lewis Jordan who made up Thaden-Jordan Furniture Corporation of Roanoke, VA, Eero Saarinen and many many others. Among the furniture pieces, there were several Herman Miller tags. I would love to win this drawing and begin to curate my own home with the best producer of design!
If you want to see more about the exhibit, go to…
