This week’s giveaway comes to from two awesome sources of inspiration who are dishing out quite a worldly and wonderful prize for one lucky reader. First up is Fresh Home, one of the few magazines to buck the vanishing shelter pub trend and actually make its debut last year (you may have noticed them in our monthly sponsor shout out last week). This fresh quarterly mag focuses on home improvement and decor ideas for anyone with a finite budget who still wants to make their home beautiful. We can definitely relate. And in a genius turn of events, Fresh Home has teamed up with one of their (and our) favorite sources, Cost Plus World Market, to score an $100 gift card for one lucky YHL reader!
The great thing about Cost Plus World Market is that they’ve got such a wide range of offerings that you could practically do a whole room from there without it looking matchy-matchy in the least. They have everything from couches, coffee tables, and rugs to pillows, lighting, and accessories. Heck, we even purchased the seat cushions for our new office makeover and the rug in our master bedroom there.

It sounds ridiculous, but I sometimes throw my pillowcase in the freezer for a few minutes before I go to sleep. Then my pillow stays delightfully cool until I fall asleep!

Down here in Florida not only is it HOT but super humid. I always take a cold shower to shake off the heat, and always keep towels and wet-wipes handy to get rid of the perspiration that never stops. It’s messy, but still fun when you go to the pool or beach and get refreshed by a dip in the water.

Without air conditioning, I have to freshen up often! I spray some cold Aubrey Organics complexion mist on my face and neck (I keep it in the refrigerator so it’s VERY refreshing), throw my hair up into a pony tail, and then I’m good to go for the next few hours.

I drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. In addition to my lunchtime routine, I made up a custom scent water to spray on. It’s light and has less chemicals and adds just a little scent.
You just mix a few drops of scented/essential oil in a spray bottle with distilled water- same as for a room spray.

I spent my day yesterday doing laundry, cleaning house, chasing after my two-year-old and cooking, so at the end of a very long day I rewarded my hard work with a big bowl of vanilla ice cream topped with semisweet chocolate chips and strawberries. Since we don’t have air conditioning, one our new favorites has been to make several trips to the lake. It is a beautiful damned lake, with the perfect temps. On an especially hot day, we go there in the evenings!
