Fab Freebie: Home Depot Gift Card & Tools

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org’s trusty randomness, we’ve got our winner and it is… Gretchen B (whose husband is “a mastermind with wood. He can make almost anything, at times he has surprised himself at what he canters up.”). That sounds familiar. Congrats Gretchen!

Sorry this post is a few minutes late (380 pages of book proofing = crazytown). But Happy Almost Father’s Day everyone! To help us celebrate, Home Depot is giving away an $100 man card, er, gift card so one lucky reader gets a fast and easy way to show their handy hubby/dad/uncle/brother/grandpa/neighbor how much they care… or how much they really want them to finish that project. Home Depot’s also throwing in a RYOBI 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Compact Drill Kit (valued at $150) because no tool collection is complete without a power drill and driver. Plus this one weighs less than three pounds and the battery lasts four times longer than your everyday battery. So guys, I’ll guess we’ll all have to come up with another excuse to take a break from our to-do lists.

Home Depot Fathers Day Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A $100 Home Depot gift card and a RYOBI 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Compact Drill Kit
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what’s the “manliest” quality of the person you’re celebrating this coming weekend. Do you admire your dad’s ability to fix anything? Do you just love seeing the father of your children with a little bit of stubble? Or maybe the way your brother plays with your nieces earns him major guy-points in your book?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 13th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Home Depot.

    Happy Father’s Day!

My dad passed 2 years ago in January, and he was not a manly-man in the least. He was a short, skinny professor with a passion for social justice issues. But he taught me to respect all people, and that is awesomely manly in my opinion.

    HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

My dad is a machinist, and seeing him come home from work wearing coveralls and coated in black grease every day is pretty manly in my book. It grossed me out as a kid, though. He used to chase me around threatening to tickly me with with his oily hands and I hated it!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! My father was just the BEST at everything, so I can’t really pick any one trait. Maybe the best was all the practical things he taught me along the way, like one I just taught my kids this weekend: When you have to lock up your bike using only the tires, always use the back tires because they’re harder to remove if the thief just wants the frame. And on the subject of bikes, we stayed in a hotel at the beach this weekend that had an awesome print of beach cruisers on the wall. I thought to myself, “I’ll bet John Petersik would love this!” I kind of loved it myself.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! My husband’s manliest quality is that he is obsessed with sports. He follows: baseball, football (NFL and college), hockey (NHL, college men’s, college, women’s), basketball (NBA, college men’s, college women’s), soccer (global), lacrosse (college), tennis, and all Olympic sports when they’re occurring. He also plays soccer year-round, broomball (explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broomball), and pick-up basketball and football.

Important to note – my dad has no interest in sports, so I grew up without any awareness about this type of lifestyle!
