Fab Freebie: Home Depot Gift Card & Tools

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org’s trusty randomness, we’ve got our winner and it is… Gretchen B (whose husband is “a mastermind with wood. He can make almost anything, at times he has surprised himself at what he canters up.”). That sounds familiar. Congrats Gretchen!

Sorry this post is a few minutes late (380 pages of book proofing = crazytown). But Happy Almost Father’s Day everyone! To help us celebrate, Home Depot is giving away an $100 man card, er, gift card so one lucky reader gets a fast and easy way to show their handy hubby/dad/uncle/brother/grandpa/neighbor how much they care… or how much they really want them to finish that project. Home Depot’s also throwing in a RYOBI 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Compact Drill Kit (valued at $150) because no tool collection is complete without a power drill and driver. Plus this one weighs less than three pounds and the battery lasts four times longer than your everyday battery. So guys, I’ll guess we’ll all have to come up with another excuse to take a break from our to-do lists.

Home Depot Fathers Day Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A $100 Home Depot gift card and a RYOBI 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Compact Drill Kit
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what’s the “manliest” quality of the person you’re celebrating this coming weekend. Do you admire your dad’s ability to fix anything? Do you just love seeing the father of your children with a little bit of stubble? Or maybe the way your brother plays with your nieces earns him major guy-points in your book?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 13th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Home Depot.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!! My dear sweet husband is all-that-is man, he fishes, hunts, golfs, he’s a high school coach. But what makes him the man I admire most is how sensitive he is as the Daddy to our two beautiful girls.

    HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

We’re honoring my dad and my father-in-law, so I’ll list two things:

My Dad DIYed before it was cool. For a good year or so (while I was a teen), he was up early every Saturday morning mixing and pouring concrete in our backyard to make a pathway out to the pool (we had a huge backyard–it was a long path) and a deck and barbeque area. That back yard is kinda paradisaical now, though, so it was totally worth it. And my dad is really manly.

My father-in-law is pretty much John Muir reincarnated. That’s the best way of describing him. I’ll just list one thing to prove it: my husband was born in the Northwest Territories, not too far from the Arctic Circle. As a baby, he ate moose and lots of fish caught fresh from the frozen lakes. I’ll give you one guess as to who provided that food. My Father-in-law lives in California now, but he spends more time out in the wilderness here than anyone else I know.

    Happy Father’s Day!

My Papa’s been doing a massive exterior project the past couple of months: he paved his driveway, tore down his old deck, hired a contractor to build a new one (His was a second story deck), and he’s currently building a beautiful retaining wall around the side of our hill to give his compost pile more structure and hide it with some bushes. He’s a good man, but always needs about 50 more paving stones, haha!

While my dad passed in 2007, I marvel at all of the things he built that I took for granted. I’d love shelves like he had in his garage – or be able to build the cabinets he did. My oldest brother, also gone, built the most beautiful oak furniture. I would want to give this to my brother, as his birthday falls on Father’s day. He can build things too!

I think it’s very manly when my husband (and the father of our 3 week old daughter) lifts heavy stuff…like when he hangs our bikes up in the garage effortlessly. Now that we have a baby, I’m impressed when he easily maneuvers the heavy carseat into our 2-door jeep (is it a coincidence that the root word of maneuver is man?). Love you C!
