We thought we’d finish off this year with a prize all about finishing off a major remodeling project (or even just a quick furniture upgrade) the right way. New Years Eve we are finishing up some painting around the house (we decided to update our dated wood stair banister and paint it a gorgeous stark white to match the trim throughout the house). But we are also going to be celebrating the new year with our 3 year old daughter and some friends. We have a tradition of a themed movie marathon – one year it was all the Lord of the Rings movies, one year, all Johnny Depp movies… we’re still narrowing down this year’s theme. Maybe a mystery theme, ending with the new Sherlock Holmes? Then, in January, we start (finish) our home projects left over from last year. :-)

We moved to our new house back in August and still haven’t really finished organizing yet (shame I know). I want to at least get the basement in shape so we can have some friends over finally. As far as New Year goes, we probably will sit down as a family drinking and playing all sorts of games. It’s cheap and fun and most importantly it’s safer than being out.

We bought our first house last year right after we got engaged and fell in love with the fact that the basement was completely bare and ready for whatever we put our minds too. So we are in the process of turning it into half man cave, half library and the next step will be building the bar! We will end NYE by going to a masquerade ball in downtown indianapolis at a renovated historic train station – can’t wait!

We have a baby. He goes to bed at 8 and gets up at 6, and doesn’t understand sleeping in on the weekends so we will probably ring in the new year in slumber.
People always say to sleep as much as possible while pregnant, but I would suggest practicing waking up every 3 hours and functioning on funky sleep patterns….just my $0.02.
