As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

My favorites are the old, dangerous, energy-sucking, big, fat colorful bulbs that meant Christmas was coming for my entire childhood. I even remember the sound they made when they’d bump together on their way out of the box. Sigh. I’m having trouble accepting LED’s ;)

I really am not a fan of the new LED lights- they are too glaring for me. So, we always end up scouring stores to find the regular old white string fairy lights when ours finally bite the dust (they are hard to find nowadays!). Mostly, though, my favorite holiday lights are candles. I dig out the candy cane striped, red, and white ones, and the reindeer and snowflake candle holders and stands. I love that flickering glow with a mug of hot cocoa or cider in my hands while we sit by the tree and fire with the kids.

I love the glow of the lights on the christmas tree with all the other lights in the house off.
However, since my daughter just broke the lampshade on our craigslist curb alert lamp 3 days before company… I’ll take anything!
