As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

I’m a sucker for the old, big, oversized color Christmas lights that suck up tons of electricity. But what I absolutely love are the electric luminarias we have around the landscaping in our front yard. We lived in Santa Fe, NM for many years and luminarias (New Mexicans tend to call them farolitos) were on every building and home throughout the city. When we moved from New Mexico to New Jersey, we brought those luminarias with us and still put them up with pride every holiday. Makes our house stand out in the neighborhood, and it reminds us of the many fun years we spent in Santa Fe.

My favorite Christmas lights are blue lights. There is a house I have loved since I was a kid that always covers their giant trees in the front yard in small blue lights that seem to almost be of different shades of blue. I love them!
