Fab Freebie: (Anything But) A White Christmas

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We often daydream about having the iconic white Christmas here in Virginia (which is extremely rare in these parts) but after this weekend’s crazy snowstorm it looks like we might actually have one. Or at least a whatever-color-you-call-half-melted-dirty-snow-that-hangs-around-for-a-week Christmas.

Glidden Snowy House

But as of today we think you’ll be dreaming of a holiday with a bit more color thanks to Glidden. So yes, as Sunny, Lacey, Travis and Nicole guessed at the end of last week’s giveaway, this week’s prize of “one of our all time favorite items” is indeed paint. In fact, Glidden’s got a gallon for a handful of you in your choice of color and finish so there’s plenty to go around.

Glidden Display

And if we haven’t already made it abundantly clear in over two years of blogging: we love Glidden’s colors. From Gentle Tide in our bedroom and kitchen to Sand White in our living room and guest bedroom, we’ve got Glidden’s fantastic hues on almost every wall of our house. And even though we’re sad that some of those colors didn’t make the cut when Glidden revamped their line earlier this year, we totally dig how user-friendly the new lineup of colors are (they even suggest complementary accent hues on the back of each paint swatch). Plus you can easily browse inspiration rooms and coordinating color schemes both in-store and on their web site and they offer tester bottles with built-in brushes for every color. It doesn’t get much more convenient that that.

Glidden Back Of Swatch

But enough jabbering. It’s time for the entry details:

  • PRIZE: Each winner will receive a voucher to be redeemed at their neighborhood Home Depot for one gallon of Glidden paint in any color and finish of their choice.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CAN ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us what colors are getting you into the holiday spirit this season. Is it the traditional red and green pairing? Unconventional schemes like lavender and silver? Or do you really just have your heart set on that white Christmas concept?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, December 23rd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: FIVE!
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

While I’d love to have a White Christmas, for decor, I go back and forth. Red and green are so homey, but the modern variations are gorgeous. I do love the limey, sparkly greens especially.

i’m a fan of purple and gold this year…a recent trip to the decorative christmas aisle in target inspired my decorating this year. i’d like to extend my use of purple from our christmas decorating to a permanent fixture in our dining room!

In our old place, our Christmas colors had been bronze, red and silver/white. It gave a great rustic feeling to our mid century modern styled townhouse. Our new house is much more clean-lined and modern, so rustic doesn’t quite go as far. Our budget doesn’t all for it this year, but hopefully next year I’ll be able to play up the silver/white and downplay the bronze for a more cohesive feeling through out the house.

This year, my decor has focused on natural colors and elements. I used pinecones in vases, cranberries and trimmings from our tree to decorate my house. I have some color in my candleholders (glass with red poinsettas painted on) and I’ve put the decorations on my ivory table runner.

This year we bought our first home and the great room is painted in shades of gray with black, white and yellow accents. I decided that I didn’t want anything too obnoxious by way of Christmas decorations so we went with a gray/black/white/red Christmas color palette and we love love LOVE it! It blends in with our existing decor and we had fun picking the new and old ornaments to display on our little tree. We even used a YHL idea and made some feather filled glass balls!

CAN ME! I am really into plum right now, though I haven’t seem many plum & silver/gold Christmas schemes yet – maybe I’ll have to do that next year! This year, my husband and I just bought a house and we have too many home renovation tasks hanging over our heads to want to put energy into a tree. We’ve used these 3 snow days in Virginia to paint and get some of those chores done. BUT, we still have more painting to do and would love to use Glidden paint!

Since my living & dinning room accent colors are teal and light lime green, my Christmas accents this year are teal and silver (like the grab-bag of bulb ornaments from Target in different shades of teal/silver/pearl white, and those snowflake ornaments like you guys have in silver).

I decided this year to go for a less is more theme. I focused the decorating on a pretty simple swag outside and something festive on our fireplace mantle. For the tree I went crazy with tons of white light and then red berry picks. So when it came time to buy a wrapping paper that would go along with the less is more idea I decided on two rolls: a red houndstooth and a black one. Then I got a roll of red bridal wired ribbon and a black one. The black paper gets the red ribbon and the red paper gets the black ribbon. I was worried it would look a little goth, but it turned out great. Its a nice graphic pop under the tree and fits in simply with the mimimalist idea I’m going for this season. So I guess red, white, black and green are my colors this year.

Two years ago after Christmas I bought a TON of beautiful turquoise/teal & silver ornaments. They looked really good in our old house, but we moved this year and I painted the living room a very pale yellow…and our tree totally clashes! I’m ready to re-paint it anyway, so I could use some free paint!
