For our big two year blogiversary and we’re celebrating with one of the biggest freebies we’ve ever freebied: a $500 Lowe’s gift card.
Did that sink in yet? It still hasn’t for us. When we started hunting for the perfect blogiversary prize a few weeks ago we never thought we’d land something so exciting. It’s like Lowe’s is giving one of you the chance to take on a big project and they’re footing the bill. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to be giving it away.
We probably don’t need to remind you of all the items you could snag during a $500 shopping blitz at Lowe’s – paint, lighting, power tools, holiday decor, flooring. Heck, you could even get a new dishwasher or something. So in case you’re having any trouble picturing where you’d put five hundred Lowe’s dollars, allow us to lend our expertise (that is, our money-spending assistance). Here are a few items that we’ve got our eyes on:
This Idylis air purifier: Since the cold weather will have us closing up our windows and doors soon, the HEPA filter on this baby keeps indoor air from getting stale and could really help Sherry as we get into allergy season.
A new lawn mower: I know the season’s ending, but I’ve had it up to here (picture my hand above my head) with the used mower we bought when we moved back in 2006 (let’s just say it’s no longer self-propelling). Lowe’s online Mower Selector tool helped turn up a bunch of options that we could snag for well under 500 beans.
A cool bathroom sink: With a full bathroom redo moving closer to the top of our to-do list we’re already starting to fantasize about where we can add some special touches, like plopping a vessel sink on top of a thrifted piece of furniture-turned-vanity. And Lowe’s has a bunch of awesome vessel sink options.
I’ve also been contemplating adding some outdoor path lighting or taking our garage organization a step further with some more sophisticated shelving. But we’d better quit letting our minds wander because we’re not the ones who get the $500 gift card… one of you does! Here’s how:
- PRIZE: A $500 Lowe’s gift card (in case you forgot)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GIMME THAT $500” (why dance around it, right?) and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us what project you might spend the prize on. Surely we’re not the only ones daydreaming about where $500 could go (and no, we won’t be picking a winner based on this answer – it’ll still be random)
- CONTEST CLOSES: Thursday, September 24th at 8pm EST (that’s an extra day!)
- WINNER: One lucky lady or gent
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the USA (but Lowe’s loving Canadians with friends or family in the states can enter and we’ll send it to your US relative/friend who can forward it on to you).
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

up on Christmas presents for all the wonderful men in my family (power
tools!) My fiance, Dad, and Grandaddy would have a field day.

Gimme that $500!!
I could definitely use a gift card to fix up some of the problem areas in our new house! For example, new doors that won’t leak would be great (so i won’t have to rig up garbage bags if a flood happens in Atlanta again)!!
Sarah Newbun says
GIMME THAT $500! We’re remodeling a 1956 rancher in Fort Worth, TX and that could get us started on an ugly brown bathroom that is next on the list!

GIMME THAT $500
My hubby and I just bought our house in May, and our upstairs is ALMOST done! What’s left? We want new ceiling fans in the foyer and the dining room (the foyer one is missing a blade and the other one is hanging down)as well as a new light fixture in the hallway, some PAINT, we’ve primed, but we’re waiting for some extra cash to pain, and last but definitely not least, some baseboard TRIM and crown moulding would really finish JUST the upstairs! Check out my blog for details. I’m totally writing a Sherry and John dedicated post!

I’m afraid I don’t have enough room to tell you all of the things that I would use that $500 for but it could be to finish off my upstairs bathroom, possibly new floors for our computer room, new baseboards, something to make my kitchen not look so 1965! The possibilities are endless!

GIMME THAT $500!!
It would be so awesome win this giftcard and be able to give it to my parents! There are so many things that need to be redone in their house. This would help so much!!
Sarah Cox says
“GIMME THAT $500″…seriously I would spend this money on the finishing touches that need to be done on our house to get ready for sale. We are moving to Canada, and will be putting our house on the market soon. There’s still a few small odds and ends that really need to be done to make this house stand out in this crazy market…$500 would be so helpful!

Gimme that $500!!!
I rent so I wouldn’t be able to do anything too crazy, but I’m sure I could find ways to spend it! ;) I do want some new lighting, and I can always use organizational tidbits.
Jason Cox says
“GIMME THAT $500”. We need a new back door for better security, molding to go around an interior door, siding to finish up an un-finished project…we closed in an exterior door when we added a bathroom, created a window instead of a door and never finished the outside. Lots of work to do! $500 should definitely get these things done!
Jessica E says
GIMME THAT $500
We’re currently renting, but I am sure we can put the $500 to good use ;)
Brittany says
GIMME THAT $500!!!
New faucets in all of our bathrooms!

GIMME THAT $500
What would I do with that money. I think for the moment I would hang onto it because we are selling our house and I would want to use it on projects on the new house. Like building a laundry room. Or just using it towards a new front loading washer and dryer. This mommy of 6 needs something that does laundry FAST.
Jessica D Calzo says
GIMME THAT $500!!! I’m thinking there’s someone affected by the floods that could use it for some repairs. So, perhaps a give away of my own?
Dominique Doucet says

GIMME THAT $500!!!!!!
We just bought a house on August 14th, and ever since that time we have been renovating it. It was built in 1963 and I don’t think that anything was ever updated since that date. There was green shag rugs, wood paneling, green cabinets in the kitchen, 3 layers of wallpaper and paint on the walls, and I could go on and on. We have focused so much on all of the other rooms that we are suddenly falling short on finishing our master bathroom. This money would have to go towards that!

“GIMME THAT $500?
Purdy please! I would love to use it to fix all of the little things that have slowly been falling apart since we moved in here (like the annoying screen door that was bent and busted when we moved in but haven’t replaced), and for adding child safety stuff all over the place now that our daughter is mobile and very curious, and gosh oh gosh do I long to paint just about everything, and we need storage… Oh, man. The list could go on forever.

Well, for starters I have never won anything in my entire life but today I feel somehow….mmm lucky! So, hoping that the luck godess is on my side this time around, I decided to enter the contest and make a comment. Please gimme that 500!
We bought our first home in the worst economic times and today there is little left to make the place reflect our own personalities buuu. Since I’m all about indiviaulity I’m hoping to win the gift card and have the half bath done inspired on your half bath (loved those strips). If there is some cash left I will go nuts and buy as much paint as possible to transform the living area. It will be a HUGE help to bank 500 dollars and make some changes in our love nest!
Best of luck to everybody else though!

GIMME THAT $500
I would use the 500 to update the hideous light fixtures in my bathrooms. They are terrible and so dated. Or maybe put a nice light fixture in the dining room since the one that is there is so basic.
