For our big two year blogiversary and we’re celebrating with one of the biggest freebies we’ve ever freebied: a $500 Lowe’s gift card.
Did that sink in yet? It still hasn’t for us. When we started hunting for the perfect blogiversary prize a few weeks ago we never thought we’d land something so exciting. It’s like Lowe’s is giving one of you the chance to take on a big project and they’re footing the bill. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to be giving it away.
We probably don’t need to remind you of all the items you could snag during a $500 shopping blitz at Lowe’s – paint, lighting, power tools, holiday decor, flooring. Heck, you could even get a new dishwasher or something. So in case you’re having any trouble picturing where you’d put five hundred Lowe’s dollars, allow us to lend our expertise (that is, our money-spending assistance). Here are a few items that we’ve got our eyes on:
This Idylis air purifier: Since the cold weather will have us closing up our windows and doors soon, the HEPA filter on this baby keeps indoor air from getting stale and could really help Sherry as we get into allergy season.
A new lawn mower: I know the season’s ending, but I’ve had it up to here (picture my hand above my head) with the used mower we bought when we moved back in 2006 (let’s just say it’s no longer self-propelling). Lowe’s online Mower Selector tool helped turn up a bunch of options that we could snag for well under 500 beans.
A cool bathroom sink: With a full bathroom redo moving closer to the top of our to-do list we’re already starting to fantasize about where we can add some special touches, like plopping a vessel sink on top of a thrifted piece of furniture-turned-vanity. And Lowe’s has a bunch of awesome vessel sink options.
I’ve also been contemplating adding some outdoor path lighting or taking our garage organization a step further with some more sophisticated shelving. But we’d better quit letting our minds wander because we’re not the ones who get the $500 gift card… one of you does! Here’s how:
- PRIZE: A $500 Lowe’s gift card (in case you forgot)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GIMME THAT $500” (why dance around it, right?) and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us what project you might spend the prize on. Surely we’re not the only ones daydreaming about where $500 could go (and no, we won’t be picking a winner based on this answer – it’ll still be random)
- CONTEST CLOSES: Thursday, September 24th at 8pm EST (that’s an extra day!)
- WINNER: One lucky lady or gent
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the USA (but Lowe’s loving Canadians with friends or family in the states can enter and we’ll send it to your US relative/friend who can forward it on to you).
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

GIMME THAT $500? We’re finishing part of our basement – and on a tight budget the only thing we’ve got working for us is our free labor – LOL!
Michelle says
If you were to gimme that $500, I would probably paint my whole apartment. My husband and I just moved into a new place, and are getting a slow start at decorating. I think painting is a great way to add personality to the place, but we don’t want to have to worry about painting it back!!

GIMME THAT $500!!!!!!!!! I would use it to finish our basement! We moved into a 50 year old house 3 months ago and while we’ve toiled away making the upstairs beautiful, the basement is less to be desired. We went to divide it in half with a wall making one side the garage and one side for utilities (laundry room) and in the back corner put a workout room! We do have a small water situation to deal with first however (old stone foundations and all) so it would be nice to use te $500 to help us fix the water problem, even out the floors and lay down some nice industrial tile. Maybe even build the floating floor that my workout room will sit on! (I’ve got to have something a little softer than tile and concrete if i’m going to work out!) Oh please please please pick us!

I would use it to put a new walkway to the front door and new lighting in the first floor bathroom and guest bathroom, and paint for the master bedroom and hallway and new flooring for the kitchen, a new fridge and dishwasher, a new lawnmower for my hubby, new carpet throughout the house…oh wait, was it $500 or $5,000,000??? Walkway is first on the list, we currently have that slate hazard leading to our front door.
Awesome giveaway! :)

GIMME THAT $500! Oh where to start? Better lighting for my kitchen, paint for my living room, a dining room rug, wall compound so we can skimcoat over the dining room walls (previous owners painted over wallpaper – lovely), a new vanity for the bathroom, new tile for the bathroom (and ugly 80’s tile is way uglier than ugly 30’s tile, sheetrock for my basement so I can finish it off (and recessed lights while I’m at it)…..

GIMME THAT $500…I recently purchased my first house and started remodeling my kitchen. It was suppose to be an easy remodel to move a couple appliances. Turned out, I needed to gut the entire kitchen. Well, I have now been living without a kitchen, cabinets, appliances and sink for months. (Grilling every day (winter is arriving soon) and dishes in the bathtub are not fun!!). I have opened a Lowe’s Project Card, which is now maxed out and there are still lots of items I still need to purchase (additional cabinets, a sink, counter tops and flooring along with additional accessories to hook up water and appliances!!). Since my Project Card has been maxed out, an additional $500 gift card will DEFINITELY would help and be used to help finish my kitchen. Come on Lowe’s GIMME THAT $500!!!

GIMME THAT $500!
Oh, so many options for our 40 year old home…new carport door, new kitchen countertops, our basement recently flooded (Atlanta floods recently) so we had to rip out the carpet going to try and paint the cement floors and put some rugs down instead — oh, hoping and praying!!! Thanks for the opportunity!

GIMME THAT $500! My husband and I have are constantly beginning, finishing, or are in the middle of a project. Right now – we’re tackling the lawn, hoping to get it beautiful for next spring. Along with our lawn, we would love to either re-do our deck or be done with the deck and put in a nice patio. $500 sure would come in handy for that job!
Jenn Powell says
GIMME THAT $500! We’re in full swing working on our kitchen so i’m pretty sure we’d use the entire thing towards that…although, that would take a BIG chunk out of the privacy fence we want to put up around the yard too…hmmm…decisions, decisions!! (congrats on your blogiversary!)
Kelly says
GIMME THAT $500! What a great prize! Because I’m at the end of my own complete bathroom reno, I would spend the $500 on new carpet for my house. We recently found out we’re expecting our first child and the thought of a little baby playing on my gross old carpet makes me go crazy!

GIMME THAT $500
When we moved into the house it came complete with a washer and dryer. The washer works great but the dryer is much older.
It has a governor built in that turns the engine off at a specified temperature.
This means that one of us has to baby-sit the laundry. If the device overheats then we hang the clothes from the rafters until dry (or we iron them dry).
Much wishing!

Gimme that $500!….We were in the process of re-doing our kitchen and had made a withdrawl at our bank to buy some items the next day that we needed and that tonight our house and vehicle were broken into and they took all the cash that we had to use for our kitchen along with additional items. I would love this money to finish the job that we were working so hard to accomplish! We have been completely devastated by this. I want the $500!!
Layne T says
GIMME THAT $500-I like many others just bought my first home (just my daughter & I); it was built in 1915 and I think last decorated in 1970. So the $$ will help with bathroom renovations-my daughter and I are getting sick of looking at the hunter green laminate counter tops and hunter green floral wallpaper (that also covers the ceiling!!). Great giveaway!!!

“GIMME THAT $500”
My husband and I have been married for a little shy of two months now and our cute little rental is in serious need of some storage. Not only that but I have some furniture that I would love to revive, it has great potential and beautiful bones but it just needs a good ole face lift!
Katie Wilson says
GIMME THAT $500…my husband and I bought a historic condo in Chicago about 2.5 years ago and we have finally gotten past the cosmetic upgrades and are now jumping feet first into larger renovation projects. Our first being the gut rehab of our .1 bathroom, yes, that is right our bathroom according to Chicago real estate is classified as a .1. Luckily, we do have a full bath but our lovely .1 bath is more like an old closet with a corner sink and toliet. My least favorite part of the bathroom has to be the radiator that sticks out of the wall and jabs you on the side of the arm while sitting on the toliet. So if I were to win the Lowe’s gift card I would put it towards some radiant floor heat! I have to say that there are a lot of sleeveless blouses in my wardrobe that I would like to wear sans the large bruise on my right arm.
K Calahane says
GIMME THAT $500! I’m thinking crown molding throughout the place. Maybe changing out some of the flat, plain interior doors to something that more closely resembles the front door (6 panel). Changing the light in the bathroom, replacing the failing fan in the shower area. A towel warmer. Ceiling fan for the bedroom. Heck, a ceiling fan for the living room too!
Katie says
Gimmme that $500!!
The husband and I are starting our house hunt so we will definitely need some paint and a lawn mower and I’m sure that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

“Gimmie that $500!” We want to replace all of the ugly brass in our house into some beautiful rubbed bronze- so fixtures, door handles, and fans here we come!
Erin Montague says
GIMME THAT $500! Wow, I could really use this. I just bought and moved into a new house a few weeks ago, and there are so many projects that need to be done to make it my own. I don’t know where to start. The half bathroom and my master bedroom both need face lifts, and my kitchen need some major plastic surgery. New floors, new counters, new appliances, and even some walls removed. And those are just the big things. I can’t even start to think about all the little things I am going to need to make this place match my own style. Wish me luck!
Gretchen says
GIMME THAT $500! Would probably spend it on the ever-impending kitchen remodel.
