About six months ago, this charming watercolor painting of Burger showed up as a surprise Christmas present in our mailbox. Ain’t he cute?
Fast forward to the present day. The thoughtful artist, Gadora Wilder (the snappy alter ego of Stephanie Lewis) is back to offer up a fun YHL giveaway. Which means one of you will score an artistic still life of your very own canine, cat, canary, chameleon or even chair (yes, Gadora does pets and still lifes a plenty)! That way you can capture your favorite furry friend or proudest decorating decision as one-of-a-kind artwork.
Based on a photo you submit, she’ll digitally enhance it, print it on watercolor paper, over-paint it with watercolor, mat it, and send it back to you all ready to frame.
So here’s how to get your shot at this week’s prize:
- PRIZE: One 8×10 custom watercolor of your pet (or any other still life) by Gadora Wilder

- BONUS QUESTION: …tell us what pet photo or still life you’d love to have rendered as a painting. An especially cute pic of your feline snuggled in bed? A goofy photo of your pup in the snow? I would love a beautiful watercolor of our pug, “Douglas Sweet Pea Smoochie Poochie” or “Doug the Pug” for short. My husband, Shon, and I got him very shortly after we were married. We had always wanted a pug (we dated for 8 years before marrying) and could not wait to fulfill that dream! Recently, we suffered a miscarriage at 10 weeks. This was our first pregnancy. We are heartbroken and scared about the future, but we know that one day we will be blessed with a healthy baby…and we would love to have a painting of “Doug the Pug” when he was a puppy (he is our first baby!) to hang in that baby’s room one day.

I would need to take a good photo of both our dogs. The pug is easy to take photos of, but the shih-tzu is another matter. Focusing on him as a whole is hard, usually the focus is just on one of his stray hairs and everything else is blurry.

I would love to have a watercolor done of our dog Mojo. He was a mutt dog we rescued from the shelter about 11 years ago and was the best dog, so chill. He had to put him down about 3 months ago and miss him every day. I still expect him to be waiting for me at the door when I get home…we are anxious to rescue another dog and welcome them into our family soon.
