Fab Freebie: A Taste Of India

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

We’d heard of the “slow food movement” before, but not the “slow clothes movement” – until this week’s giveaway sponsor reached out to us. Saffron Marigold creates luxury Indian linens, and they make each tablecloth, bedspread, curtain and pillow cover very meticulously (both to safeguard traditional techniques and deliver a high quality finished product). Just think, all of these patterns have been meticulously hand-printed inch-by-inch using traditional woodblock techniques in Saffron Marigold’s Indian artisan studios. Pretty fantastic, eh?

Saffron Table Cloths

And this week TWO of you are going to have a chance to enjoy TWO pieces of these slowly and beautifully made linens in your home. Each winner will get their choice of a lovely tablecloth or table runner…

Saffron Table Runners

…and their choice of a gorgeous and graphic cushion cover.

Saffron Cushion Covers

And while you’re over on their site browsing their stunning designs, be sure to check out the photo slideshow of their time-intensive process which details how they create all the unbelievably intricate patterns. It will truly give you an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into these prizes. And you’ll also soon get to appreciate a sweet discount they’re dishing out (stay tuned for those details on Thursday).

Saffron Process

So here’s the gist:

  • PRIZE: Your choice of any  tablecloth or table runner from Saffron Marigold, plus one cushion cover.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MARIGOLD ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us something that you feel is always better when you take your time. Maybe you agree with the slow food or slow clothes movement? Or you prefer to give lots of time to painting or a DIY project? Perhaps you’re just a slow and very careful driver?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 9nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the WORLD!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I like to knit…quite possibly the slowest craft in the universe! There’s no way not to take your time when you’re creating your fabric one tiny stitch at a time.

Definitely agree with slow cooking. I’m (slowly) learning to home-make all sorts of things for my family, from waffles and soups, to potato chips and popsicles. Even our popcorn is cooked up in a pot now. Everything tastes better, and we get to skip the yucky additives.

I usually read really quickly, however if the book is really good, I like to take it slow a chapter or two a day to stretch out my reading enjoyment.

Hmmm … most of the time, I’m in a rush, but I definitely like to take the time to make some things — like bread — from scratch and taking the time to read lots of great books.

I make all my own baby food for my son and that is a slow process. But totally worth it knowing that he has wholesome, organic food!

And I think everything always turns out better when you take the time to do it right the first time. I become cranky when I have to redo something because it was carelessly done (big and small projects alike!)

    MARIGOLD ME.
As an English major in college, I learned to read slowly as a ways savoring both a book’s language and its themes. I tend to read nonfiction quickly, since I’m usually reading mostly for quick information, but I still take my time reading fiction. The faster the world moves around me, the more I appreciate moving at a quiet pace through a book.

I think making a strawberry rhubarb tart is possibly the most fabulous thing to take time to do. Not just making them, but eating them! Good thing it takes so long or I’d do it often.

    MARIGOLD ME!

I enjoy taking my time when I clean my apartment. Its very hard for me to find time to clean, but when I do, I’m very thorough about it. I meticulously go room by room, ceiling to floor, making sure to get each nook and cranny. Its so satisfying when I’m finished.

I bake slowly. There’s something loving about carefully measuring out each ingredient and evenly blending them. And like to pick an album or two to match what I’m baking. Laura Viers for fruit pies, Otis Redding for brownies…baking is always an event in my kitchen.

I have two pomeranians and I like to brush out their thick coats while watching tv shows. It always goes better when it’s slow – it doesn’t hurt them, so they can just feel like they are being petted. And I don’t get stressed out trying to keep them from running away.

I love slow cooking. Although I don’t often have enough time or forethought to cook something really slowly, it always turns out wonderfully when I do. The best thing I have ever cooked was french onion soup that took about four hours to make but was oh so delicious!

I always take my time when I’m ready stories to my two young sons. They love to gaze at the pictures, so spending the time to really annunciate the words gives them time to get lost in the pages.

I’ve recently forayed into the world of STRIPPING FURNITURE and I have to say when I rush or try to do this too quickly I get frustrated to the point of tears, but taking my time, slowly and lovingly coaxing the beautiful wood underneath to come out with hand-sanding and scraping, I enjoy the whole process immensely. It feels really satisfying to actually go slow with this activity and have an awesome result at the end.
