Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

    FURNISH ME!

I have a quarter sawn oak buffet that we bought from a landlord years ago. We moved it with only two of its legs from KY to MN to MI while it sat in our basements, when H finally got around to refurbishing it. It is gorgeous now.

I received an old steamer trunk for Christmas last year. I refinished it and now it serves as an AMAZING side table in our living room.

FURNISH ME! Despite its peeling veneer and wonky glass shelving, I love my mid-century china cabinet that used to belong to my grandmother. Best part is that it still houses her china, which I get to use today!

    FURNISH ME!!!

The best piece of furniture we currently have is probably the buffet that was left in our old apartment. It has a ton of storage and is currently our entertainment center, keeps toddler fingers from pulling out every dvd we own.

    FURNISH ME!
The greatest piece in our house right now is actually not a piece of furniture, but a piece of art. We got an old Osh-Kosh sign mounted on a wood frame that’s about 3 ft by 5 ft at Antique Archaeology (the American Pickers’ store in Nashville). It was a really good price, and it features really cool mid-century modern illustrations of overalls and their features. It’s the perfect mix of retro, modern, country and nostalgia and fits our design taste and 112 year old TN house perfectly!

FURNISH ME! My favorite piece of furniture now is my sons dresser. We found it at a second hand store for $50.00 and we put a little work into it (sanded, painted it green and put new knobs on it) we also lined the drawers with fun paper. For me, putting out own touch on it made it special!

FURNISH ME! Feeling utterly selfish by wanting to win this so bad! I love an armoire we bought a few years ago before flat screen TVs hit the market big. It’s beautiful but not as useful as it used to be.

FURNISH ME! My greatest piece….hmmmm my boyfriend brought all the good furniture to the apartment so if we were to split up, I’d be most excited that I get to keep the very big, very nice tv that was mine before we moved in. It’s not only a light source but a decorative element!

My favorite piece is a hutch/cabinet that my parents got at an estate sale in the 1980’s. When I got married, the hutch came with me and has moved four times, always providing essential storage and character to wherever we call home.
