You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.
So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!) so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. I have too many to choose from! I buy each piece slowly and put a lot of love into it, so I love so many. Either my antique oak table with craigslisted $10/each windsor chairs, or the mid-century modern aluminum desk chair (also craigslisted for $50). It’s the same style that you see pop up in EVERY magazine as dining chairs and barstool. I think it’s called a navy chair.

Currently paired as a coffee table between my two linen loveseats but could be split up to be end tables in a different layout…

My favorite piece of furniture would have to be my couch. It was a wedding gift, I didn’t have to go searching for it, but it’s the greatest couch in the world. It’s a great size and shape, and a fun burnt orange color. The shape makes it easy to cover up with slips if we ever feel like changing the mood of the room.
