Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

My Ikea sectional (inspired by you guys!). I was totally anti-sectionals and my husband was totally anti-ikea, but it’s by far the most loved piece of furniture we own. :)

    FURNISH ME!!!

My fav piece has to be the bed my brother-in-law built us as our wedding gift. It’s a brand new king size bed in a vintage finish that looks like it belong in Cape Code. Heart melting now just thinking of it. On top of that he even carved our initals into one of the posts in the shape of a pear for sentimental reasons. :-)

I should say ‘furnish us,’ as my wife is a huge fan of your blog. Anyway, we each have wingback chairs given to us by our grandmothers — hers is no longer around. They face eachother by the fireplace, and we love to sit there and read when it’s chilly out… (which is rare, since we live in TX!)

    FURNISH ME!

Before moving to a different state last year my boyfriend bought two dressers from his elderly neighbor. I moved with him, painted the dressers and found delightful new (and on sale) hardware. They have absolutely become my favorite pieces of furniture and I seriously can’t believe I was able to make them look as good as they do. All thanks to internet tutorials, of course!

Probably the best piece we currently have is something we picked up at Brimfield fair this spring. A toolbox trunk from the 1800s. It makes a great coffee table since it has a ton of storage, and the story behind it is great too!

My husband and I made a computer desk. Metal bottom (he welded it, I used an angle grinder to create cool designs on the metal), wood top (he cut, I sanded and stained). It’s definitely a conversation piece!

My most proud piece of furniture I own is a chair from around 1920 of which was my Grandmothers. It was found and being prepared for the burn pile. My Mother saved it for me and I painstakinly put in about $200 and weeks of work into it to make it beautiful and functinal again. Every time I walk by it, I think of my amazing and now late Mom and Grandma.

Furnish me! My favorite piece of furniture currently in our home is a set of industrial/garage storage shelves we got for $20 at Walmart. I have them in the kitchen with dishes and things on them. Everything else is hand-me-downs, and while some of them are great and very well made, they just aren’t what I would pick out.
