Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

FURNISH ME! My boyfriend and I are recent college grads and our poor apartment definitely reflects that. We’re working on replacing old college hand-me-downs with cute new things that actually reflect our tastes. My current favorite is my amazing Craigslist find–a gorgeous, like brand new wool rug that reminds me of your guys’ new one in the bedroom! It has a great, bold black and white print that makes a perfect statement in our loft and best of all–$40!!! There is no way that baby retailed for under $200. Definitely an upgrade from our old, flat one from Target many moons ago.

I refinished a my grandmother’s dining table after my small home town was hit by a tornado. We cut it in half and reatached the legs then refinished the surface. It’s now at my house in the breakfast room where we start our day! Lots of memories, old and new, around this table.

The greatest piece I own is a $999 Pottery Barn rug that I scored for $299 (new with tags) on ebay a few years back! Since I never run across a deal, or am usually too late for the deal, I was stunned and THRILLED with my purchase. I love the rug even more because it was such a steal of a deal:)

    FURNISH ME!

My greatest piece of furniture is my great grandfather’s old wooden full sized bed and headboard. My sister used it in her room in our house growing up, I’ve used it through college and grad school, and its about to become the guest bed in the new home my husband and I recently bought. Its beautiful and obviously lived many wonderful, useful lives for so many generations of my family.

Several months ago, I scored a sweet Mid Century Modern buffet on the cheap – 80 bones. It makes an awesome centerpiece in our dining room. Some repairs need to be done to it, but the piece was so great for the price. I love great vintage finds!

My favourite piece of furniture that I own is my old white iron bed from Ikea (currently in my guest bedroom. Although its nothing fancy it represents my independence to me- I saved my pennies and bought it while in University so I didnt have to sleep with just a mattress on the floor.

My favorite piece is an antique dresser I inherited from my great-great parents. They purchased it in the 1930’s. It’s a beautiful dark wood 6 drawer dresser and i keep it in my dining room. Of course I have other sentimental pieces as well considering my grandfather was a furniture builder. I have a whole house full of cherished pieces!

    FURNISH ME!

I got a neat hanging lamp (lattice brown wood with a cloth cylinder inside of it for the bulb) from Pier 1 a few years back for 60% off (because they were closing that location), and I almost didn’t buy it because it was still more expensive than my normal “splurge” amount even at 60% off. But I am so glad I didn’t pass it up. It is really neat, and makes for a nice reading nook in our living/family room.

Right now my fave piece of furniture is our Karlstad sectional sofa (we’ve got the same color as you guys, except without the chaise) – our bed is still cluttered with stuff from our recent move and it has been a very functional sleep space for all 5 feet 5 inches of me and 6+ feet of my husband.
