Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

I love our dining room table and chairs. They aren’t at all pricey (hello, Ikea) but I love their look and our dinners around them.

I inherited a bedroom set from a great aunt. I was pretty dated looking but with a lot of sanding, a new paint job, and some new hardware it is now definitely my fav!

We found an amazing dresser curbside and when we loaded into the car the owner came out to help. Turns out it was handmade in Florida in a style specific to the region. An absolutely gorgeous bone in my bedroom!

My home is filled with hand-me-downs or cheapy wal-mart furniture. Though, I took wood shop in high school loved and missed it – so I made a beautiful desk. It’s solid and time-less and something I think would be passed down through generations.

Furnish me! I think the nicest furniture I own are a solid cherry dresser and gentleman’s chest of drawers, which I found at a thrift store for $50 for the set. Either that or my knockoff Courbusier chairs that I bought when the retail store I worked at remodeled and sold their “husband” chairs for $50 apiece. Most of my other stuff is nothing to write home about.

My favorite piece of furniture is a print that we got at Crate and Barrel for a wedding gift. It’s large but not too large and inspired the color scheme for the whole main floor of our relatively small home. I could fit these pieces in quite smoothly!

    FURNISH ME!!

Does a rug count? I spent over a year hunting and searching for a bright, colorful Moroccan rug to go in my living room to kick start my “modern moroccan” theme that I wanted, and finally purchased one for a DEAL from a co-op. It is still my favorite piece in the house, even though it’s not technically furniture. Our bed is a close second – but that’s because we made it from scratch and it was my husband’s and my first DIY furniture-building experience and, despite a few mishaps and mistakes, it turned out pretty darn good!

    (I HOPE I WIN!)

I have this gorgeous black walnut grandfather clock that my great-grandfather (Papa) built back in the 70’s when he was in his early eighties. It was actually the last clock that he built because his eyesight was getting poor. And to make it even more special the wood was from a tree on the property where my grandmother grew up. I treasure that clock that my Papa built :)
