Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

My favorite piece of furniture…..hmmmm I just acquired a vintage metal three tiered cart, bright yellow, from the 50’s. I love it. Also, a small color tv, from the 70’s with rabbit ears, for my kitchen *in yellow*. I have so many things that would mean nothing to anyone else, but I love them. My circa 1950’s mother of pearl topped chrome table and chairs, antique secretariate. *sp?* …..

The greatest piece of furniture hands down that I own would definitely have to be a bookshelf that I have had since I was a toddler! My mom finally let me take it to my apartment a few years ago and it is a beautiful vintage piece. I love it so much and wouldn’t ever think of giving it away! So many amazing memories :)

    FURNISH ME!

Our first piece of “grown-up” furniture we ever purchased was a console table from Ethan Allen. I didn’t think my husband and I would ever agree on a style for our house. We saw the tabke at the same time and said “This is it!” We saved and saved and saved some more for it. It really set the tone for our style!

I got a small chest this year with two drawers. My sister found it at an antique coop and pointed it out to me. It was smelly and stripped to just the wood. It’s the first piece my husband and I refurb together. We painted it a griege color and then he waxed it with a dark wax. The finish on it is so beautiful and it looks like we paid alot more then the $45 I spent on it. I was sure he would be upset when I brought it home but we both fell in love with that chest at first site and still are. He makes local tv commercials and even used the chest in a commercial. :)

My parents bought me a BEAUTIFUL Dark wood Desk that was huge and by far the nicest piece of furniture I’ve ever owned, or probably will. It came from a, now defunct, furniture store in Northern VA which sold really great, one of kind pieces.

I need just about everything on this giveaway! My ikea malm dresser has not held up over 2 moves and the drawers wont even shut. Ha

My greatest piece I own at this time has got to be our deep, tufted, armless side chair upholstered in linen in our living room. It sits across from a gray leather wingback and a sleek, modern low sitting couch with a light pattern. It pops out so well because of the linens texture as well as how inviting it looks — it’s the first spot in the living room to be called “dibs” on when we have company over :)
