Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

    FURNISH ME!

I cherish our Art Deco armoir that my stepfather gave to us for our wedding. It’s huge, fits together with four screws and the center door has a full size octoganal beveled mirror. It’s the kind of piece my parents had when I was a kid, but my mom didn’t keep after my dad passed. My stepfather knew my dad, knew about the piece, and knew this would be perfect for us. Thank you Poppy D!

My favorite piece has to be a wood buffet table in our dining room. It has eight cubbies that we currently use to store our 1-year old’s toys, but I can see it being very functional for dish storage later on down the road! Yay for multi-functional pieces!

Furnish Me! My favorite piece of furniture is an old farm table my husband and I got out of the attic in my husband’s grandmother’s barn. It is beautiful and makes the whole dining room.

We have the dining room set my grandparents first used when they got married. The only reason that gets the “great piece” award is due to its sentimental value…. everything else in our home is pretty much crap and still looks like we’re in college.

FURNISH ME! I have an old dresser that my mom gave me when I went to college. It isn’t anything crazy, but it always reminded me of my mom when I was homesick! Plus, I found some Anthropologie knobs that I used to update the piece. I pretty much lost my mind when I saw them on sale!

Furnish me!!! Those pieces are gorgeous and I can tell you exactly where each would fit right into my home!

I would say the best piece I have is either my classic pedestal table with a huge, fat, turned goblet pedestal, or my pair of oversize wingback chairs in a nubby, neutral fabric. Pretty much everythIng else I own is low-quality ;)

My favorite piece right now would be an antique sitting couch I just scored at an estate sale for just 7 bones. And I got to talk to the original owner’s daughter who gave me the full back story! I can’t wait to reupholster it, and restore it to its original glory!

My best piece I inherited from my grandparents. It’s a mid century record cabinet they used to store all of their Swiss records. I have it in my living room now and store all my paper goods inside with a large vase on top. I always see it as I enter my front door and think of them :)

    FURNISH ME!

I was hanging around in my grandma’s attic one day and happened upon the most wonderful chair. It was the perfect height for my 5’2″ frame and covered in (somewhat threadbare) but awesome pink and orange shimmery fabric. I asked my grandma about it, and she shrugged, told me that she and her sister had picked it up on the cheap 50 years ago(!), and told me I could have it. Man, I love that chair.

We have a set of dressers from the 1950’s in the Danish Modern style (our favorite) that are in amazing condition and are still stamped with the original Montgomery Ward markings. Even better, we got them for a steal from a woman who was clearing out her elderly mother’s belongings. She was so excited that they were going to a family that was going to take care of them that she gave us a great deal!
