***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***
Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!
You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.
So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!) so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:
-
The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
-
The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
- A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
-
The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
-
A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
- The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)
- PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

Furnish me! My favorite piece is our huge gray velvet upholstered headboard. I’d fallen in love with a pricey West Elm one, but hubby hunted around on the internet and found a great quality lookalike for a third of the price. We’re in love with it!

I don’t think a “great piece” can come from IKEA, so I really don’t have anything great…yet!!
Mandi says
Furnish me! My favorite piece of furniture is a bookshelf that my husband got for free before we met. It’s in the toy room now, but after the boys have outgrown it, I have tons of ideas of how I want to paint it and a new backboard to put on it!
Arica Braden says
FURNISH ME! I think the greatest “piece” we own is our mantle. It is made from a log that was completely stripped and varnished so it has just a really light color to it and looks so pretty against our stone fireplace. Other than that the furniture situation in our house is pretty sad bc i am always too unsure about what to get to decide to spend the money on something.

FURNISH ME!
My favorite piece in our house is an upright piano that was unwanted by my mother. It’s nothing fancy, but I grew up playing it and it holds a special place in my heart. Plus, with a little TLC (read: paint) we’ll be able to spruce it up in no time.

FURNISH ME! My favorite piece is a vintage 50s-style armchair I got at a flea market with my dad when I was about 10. I had wanted a chair for my bedroom, so we drove around the countryside stopping in antiques malls and flea markets until we found the perfect one. It has since be known as the “Thunderbird chair” for it’s turquoise vinyl seat and back and sleek black legs.

Furnish me! Hmm…I guess it could be our new couch. We had a smaller one that I bought for my apartment and looked silly in our new home (did I mention my husband hated it and it sagged in the middle?). Our first (and so far only) major furniture purchase for the new house was that couch- worth every penny.

FURNISH ME! My greatest piece of furniture is a side table that my husband bought for me in Thailand while we were engaged. I was patiently waiting for my adventurous fiance to return. When he arrived back in the US, he came with some fabulous tokens of his love. Every time i look at the table i get the warm fuzzies and feel so blessed to have him back in my life.

FURNISH ME!!!I scored an awesome dresser on craigslist. I was looking to re-do an old dresser and turn it into a TV console. It cost me $25, I painted the bottom and stained the top. And the Bonus was that it came with a piece of glass for the top! It is probably one of the nicest pieces of furniture we own.
