Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

Well, I just graduated college and am attempting to get things for my new place myself. I just found a lovely desk for $20 on craigslist, painted it a nice aqua and added pretty knobs. It’s my favorite. :)

The best piece of furniture that I have I found at a thrift store last year. It’s a gorgeous Mid-Century Modern buffet. the wood need to be refreshed, so I fixed it up, and now I smile every time I see it.

The best piece of furniture I own is definitely the old wooden hutch that I use as a vanity in my bedroom (I replaced the upper shelves with a DIY mirror, and stained the whole thing a darker shade to better match the rest of my furniture)

It was a wedding gift to my parents from my grandparents. Aside from being a great piece, it has a lot of sentimental value. :)

    FURNISH ME!!!

I do not splurge on expensive pieces of furniture whatsoever! I have some great hand me down pieces with marble from my grandparents, some garage sale finds that have been spruced up, and then some great world market pieces and our new couch from ashley furniture! I love the mix of them all. But our latest piece that I am most proud of is actually still a work in progress! My husband and I built a toy storage unit that is a copycat of pottery barn! We are starting the poly coat now! Can’t wait to load it up with cute baskets and toys!!!

FURNISH ME! I have this great high-backed mission style bench in a beautiful high gloss cherry finish that I got at (of all places) Lowe’s about 15 years ago. It was from a line of furniture that they carried for about a hot minute and then discontinued. So glad I snagged it when I did. Thanks as always for the opportunity to win something!

My most cherished pieces: a gift we received for our wedding. It is a canvas fingerprint tree and it brings so much life to our bedroom. It’s a constant reminder for us of how many wonderful friends we have and what a blessing our family is… We are truly loved and supported. Then there is a canvas painting my friend made for our daughter who is 37 weeks still in the oven ;) It is her name and a great horned owl that reminds me of my grandmother. The personal things always mean the most.

I think it would be our new bed, and by new I mean new to us. It was actually my husbands grandparents and is probably a few hundred years old. It is a four poster oak bed, put together by these huge screws. It’s 2 feet off the floor (the bottom) and comes with a step stool. Being 5’2 and 9 months pregnant has been quite the challenge!!!
