Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

FURNISH ME! I’m most proud of a bright yellow dresser that my husband and I refinished for our son’s room. It’s a really detailed dresser, and we worked so hard stripping it and getting the paint out of all those crevices!

    Furniture me!

I work from home so having a cute and comfortable work space is VERY important. I recently found a chair ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! The wood detail is gorgeous, but the seat was really beat up. Sooo, I took on my first DIY project and re upholstered it. I am in love with it.

FURNISH ME! When I was three my grandparents got a Waterford chandelier. I asked “Can I have that when you die?” They actually gave it to me when they moved into assisted living and it’s definitely my most treasured piece.

FURNISH ME! My favorite piece we have is a 2 drawer filing credenza that we get for free in a terribly dilapidated state! My husband fixed the hardware and I sanded, primed, painted and added new hardware; now our pretty little credenza doubles as my nightstand and our home filing system (we have a very small apartment!)

I have a beautiful antique bed that my grandparents bought for me when I was a teenager. If I remember correctly it is around 200 years old and is stunning. I occasionally wish for a modern bedroom, but will never give up my bed.

Furnish Me! My favorite piece in our house is my daughter’s bed. My dad just made it for her this winter and he made one for my son too, but we haven’t put it up yet since he is still in a crib. Anyway, he finished this winter and then this spring he was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. He is having a rough time of it, but hanging in there. Anyway, the beds just take on more meaning for me each day and I love that his hands crafted them for my children, just like the bed he made for me when I was a little girl. So, there is a lot of love wrapped around all that wood. :)

Furnish Me!! I found a beautiful old pedestal table at a flea market earlier this summer, but it had a lot of water damage to the top. I spent hours sanding it down and staining it. Now it’s the perfect kitchen table that we’ll use for years and years to come. Plus, my husband had to take back his words of “why would you ever buy that piece of junk!” hehe :)
