You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.
So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!) so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. It’s a handed down hand-me-down with lots of history and character. Sure, it’s a bit wobbly and could use some sanding and re-staining, but I love it.

It’s the same camera used to capture many old family photographs, so it’s a great piece of family history that I now proudly have on display :)

I have a box the size of a side table that my grandfather brought home from WWII. He packed Noritake China in it for my grandmother. It was built on the ship he was on and is a military blue with faded red writing on the top: F.A. Zaller USN MSC (US Navy Medical Service Corps) Philadelphia, PA. It is a true keepsake that I pulled out of his barn and “refinished” it to savor the great piece of history!
