Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

I love the reclaimed barnwood benches that I found at a flea market for $50. They are in our entryway and they are just perfect. I’m trying to decide if I just leave them their original color or if we should paint them a fun, funky color.

A handmade wardrobe from an amazing Etsy crafter, made of old barn doors. I also somehow got it for a steal because the designer/maker was just starting out and not aware of how incredible their pieces were!

Okay so I had to quickly walk through my apartment just to make sure I gave you the perfect piece….drumroll please… :) …. okay so my faaaaaavorite piece is the canvas photo I bought about a year ago at Ikea. Since I tend to be on the thrifty side it was a little bit of a splurge for me at around $118 but it is so dreamy. Actually they still sell it if you’re interested. It appears to be a scene out of the rainforest in Costa Rica and it has a rope bridge that gradually gets smaller so it almost seems like it’s inviting you to step on it and walk over to the tree that’s in the distance. …still don’t feel like I’ve found the perfect space for it or the perfect accessories but I think I would actually experiment with the coolicious winnings to see if I can create an inspiring room to dream… but still relaxing at the same time… I sure hope I win Mr. Random.org :) …pick me! …pick me! :)

FURNISH ME!!!!!! I am proud of my first bed which was also a splurge/splash steal. It’s a vintage-looking wrought iron sleigh bed that I’ve had for about 14 years. I found it on Melrose in LA with an original price tag of $3000 (yikes) but paid $800 and I love it’s originality.

Please, pretty please FURNISH ME: I am dying to redo my basement and I think that the grouping selected by the McGraths would fit with the direction I am headed! I would also love to read the book.

I am currently working on breathing new life into an antique chest of drawers that is begging for some high gloss paint and new hardware.

I am also pretty smitten with the vintage school chairs I found at a thrift store for $2/each. They sit around our dining room table and make me smile. :)

We have a big fat armchair+ottoman that is really big enough for two to snuggle in, and it was never used in our old apt-stuck in the upstairs loft. Our new bedroom has a perfect corner of windows and we LOVE that chair now!! Nice to see it used as we hoped when we bought it.
