Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

FURNISH ME!!! Our favorite piece is the bed frame in our guest bedroom. I found it in the closet at my office (a house converted into a dental office). I asked by boss about it and he said…you can have it. My car was pulled around so fast ready to load!

Furnish me!! My mother in law handed down her dining buffet just after we were married and two years before she passed away. At the time we couldn’t even fit it into our apartment and had exactly 8 glasses to put it in. Today it fits perfectly in our dining room and is a constant reminder of the lovely woman she was.

Furnish Me! My favorite piece is an oak filing cabinet – because it’s the first “real” piece my husband and I purchased and picked out together (we just got married in November), and also because I am a crazy organizing fool.

FURNISH ME! My fave piece is an antique pine writing table, which was my VERY first grown-up purchase EVER that I bought in a furniture consignment shop in Springfield, Oregon, right after college graduation for just $100 — which was a LOT of money for me at the time! It’s made EVERY move with me ever since! About TWENTY moves, oh my!!

I’d say my favorite piece is our king sized tempurpedic mattress. I worked at a furniture store for a while and saved all my commissions for that baby, and boy is he worth it. When we go away from home, my hubby and I always talk about how much we miss our cozy bed. I need to work on making a headboard for it now. It’s been almost 2 years without one!

My favorite piece is an antique buffet with the curvy queen anne legs, that my boyfriend bought for my birthday. I found it on craigslist months before. I had just happened to email the lady about the dimensions but decided not to get it because money was a bit tight. The posting expired but around the time of my birthday he had me email the lady to see if it was still available. It was! We actually use it as a flat screen tv stand in our living room. So, while he watches baseball I admire my beautiful buffet!

The greatest piece of furniture I currently own is an antique hutch I bought at a going-out-of -business sale about 10 years ago. It has served us well in dining rooms, bathrooms, guest bedrooms and hase been divided (top and bottom) to hold the TV in one room and dishes in another. It has also been in the hallway entrance as a shoe/umbrella/ keys catch-all. As you can tell, we move a lot! This piece always finds a home!

My favorite piece of furniture is an old wooden chest we inherited from my mother-in-law. she painted it with white enamel paint when she owned it and i tried stripping it but could not get all of the paint off. Accidentally it ended up being half stripped but I love it like that and wouldn’t part with it for anything. x

I have a wood cabinet I took from mom’s house before she was going to get rid of it. My five sisters and brother all used it when we were growing up for books and crafts. I repainted it, spiced it up a bit and now our daughter uses it for her crafts too! The tradition carries on.
