Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

    FURNISH ME!

seriously this is an incredible giveaway! I don’t have one greatest piece… I have 3. 1: sewing table from my mother that was her grandmothers. 2: couch that my parents have had since the 70’s and it still looks fabulous. 3: a white painted deer antler coat rack that I made myself. :)

Furnish Me!! The greatest piece I own is our super comfy couch. Its actually coming apart at the seams (literally) but we absolutely love it and I just cant get rid of it. Its like your fav pair of jeans or your fav t shirt that you’ve had for years and you cant let it go. It is down filled and took 11 weeks to make when I ordered it! It is the most comfortable couch I’ve ever sat on and when we have house guests they argue over who’s going to sleep on the couch!

My favorite piece is an old broken down record player/cabinet that I rescued from my neighbors trash. I had my husband gut it, then I repainted and repurposed it. It’s still in use to this day. Free and easy, does it get any better?

My husband and I refinished a dresser the summer we were married. We spent so much time stripping the paint, sanding and staining the top, and repainting the drawers, and we really had no clue what we were doing! We still have the dresser in our bedroom, and I’ll always remember the time we spent finishing it together.

FURNISH ME! Please. It’s a toss up because I love the settee we found at a secondhand store years ago, but my grandma’s 12′ long dining room table just came home with me this summer and I’m in love with it, too.

Strangely, our best ‘bones’ piece of furniture is a rustic wooden wall shelf left on a Greenwich Village sidewalk as trash. We cleaned it up and filled it with leftover homemade pickles from our wedding and antique kitchen implements. Functional, sturdy, and gorgeous.

My favorite piece of furniture that I have is my Grandmother’s china cabinet that she bought when she 1st got married.

Back then you could buy a living room set, dining room set, and 2 bedroom sets for around $200 total!! It was all sold as a package.

I found a rustic, super heavy duty wooden coffee table at a swap meet 7 years ago for only $5. So far it’s been a coffee table, aquarium stand, craft table for my niece, and with the addition of a simple shelf it recently became our tv stand/media center. It was the best $5 ever spent!
