Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

My favorite piece is my kitchen table, which my dad built many years ago! It was our family table when I was little and will be a part of my home for years to come!

My favorite piece in the house is an old pot that was my great great grandmothers. I even made sure to buckle it into a seat belt when I brought it home from my grandmother’s house a few months ago ;)

My boyfriend and I constructed a butcher block esque island on metal legs for the kitchen. We live in a studio so it separates the kitchen from the living area perfectly. Plus, there’s 3 months of sweat n’ tears in that baby.

“FURNISH ME!” We have a linen cupboard we bought and painted from Ikea that we have used in every room in the house and for everything besides linen! I love the glass doors and versatility of it.

It took us 2 years to find the perfect kitchen table -which we still love- but the new love of our home is our sectional couch in our finished basement which has a large “cuddler” corner piece on the end. We highly recommend it to all couples who like to cuddle!

What an awesome giveaway! My favorite piece we own is an art deco dresser that we got off of Craigslist. We went to see it and the thing has the original plaque from the manufacturer from the 20’s, beautiful inlay…wow! And best of all it only set us back 25 bones.

My favorite is the Japanese hutch in our foyer. It was a wedding gift from my grandfather to my mother and father. When my father died, my mom put it in storage (downsizing to a smaller house) and I asked to take it out and put it in my house.

FURNISH ME!!! I love a lot of pieces, but the simplest piece I ever updated was mirror. It was an awful gold frame with plenty of ornate carvings. I painted the frame glossy white. It’s so awesome, shiny, and it looks a bit like frosting!

… hmmmm… most of what we have is hand-me-downs. That being said, I think my favorite piece is my daughter’s dresser. It was my dad’s when he was a kid and mine when I was a kid. Some days I long to paint it, but other days I just know I’d regret it eventually.

I would have to say I have 2 pieces that are my all time favorites!! The first one is an old sewing table that I got from my grandma after she passed away. It is the perfect mix of old with my new furniture. I also have another favorite piece…one that I spent a little money on….my wonderful cherry buffet in my dining room! Love to mix the old and new with POPS of color!
