Fab Freebie: Ready, Eames, Fire

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

This giveaway hit our 10,000 entry cap just a few hours before usual closing time, so random.org had its work cut out for it picking a winner. They selected… Kelsey (who thinks “an Eames chair is the foundation to a good collection”). Congrats on your new foundation piece!

Who wants to win an Eames chair this week? Better yet – who wants to win several Eames chairs this week? Well, one of you is going to, because the folks at the Herman Miller Store are gonna hook you up with $2,000 worth of product! That’s enough to choose practically anything from their catalog of iconic furniture pieces from award-winning designers. And even if you don’t score the grand prize, they’re offering up a discount to everyone that could save you some serious dough on that statement piece that you’ve been pining for. Check out all the details below.

HermanMillerGiveaway

  • PRIZE: $2,000 worth of product from the Herman Miller Store
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MILLER ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …what’s one classic designer / artist / architect / fashion icon / etc that you’ve always admired and why? Have you always been a sucker for anything Frank Lloyd Wright? Would you give anything to hang an original Andy Warhol piece on your walls? Or are you still trying to catch your breath over the thought of having an Eames chair in your home?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Aug 8th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • DISCOUNT: 15% off all purchases at the Herman Miller Store with code YHL15 (valid through Nov 1, 2012 – cannot be combined with other offers).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Herman Miller.

Miller Me! It would have to be an impressionist painting from any famous French artist.

Miller Me! My fav architect of all time is Mies Van der Rohe. I love him for his impact on modern architecture! As a native Chicagoan I grew up driving by his apartment buildings on LakeShore drive–I adore the stark contrast between the open/industrial look of these buildings and their classical next door neighbors. I could go on forever. I love modern architecture and design. I love Herman Miller!

I’ve always loved Mies van der Rohe… so clean and beautiful. But I was recently in Barcelona, and I don’t think it’s possible to walk away from that city without a profound appreciation for the work of Antoni Gaudi… dude was a GENIUS!

    Miller Me!!

I’m lucky enough to have a job that requires me to run errands in the MMA’s galleries and I often find myself “shopping” for my apartment! Lately, I’ve become obsessed with this John Belter Sofa. (http://www.metmuseum.org/Collections/search-the-collections/10008781?rpp=20&pg=1&rndkey=20120806&ft=*&deptids=1&what=Furniture&pos=3) This whimsical/impractical design mixed with a bold graphic is totally fun, no? I feel as if this one piece of furniture is entirely the point of shopping in your mind in a museum.

As well as greats like Charles and Ray Eames, I am addicted to Raymond Loewy’s contributions to the design world. He really put Industrial Design (and ‘good’ design in general) on the map. So many things we interact with each day have been impacted by his creativity and talent.

    MILLER ME!

I have always admired the architecture of Phillip Johnson.
His use of glass as exterior partitions allows an interior environment set within an ever-changing natural or urban landscape to influence the overall design of the space. As a designer myself, I enjoy change on a daily basis and why not let nature influence a color palette that changes from season to season keeping it fresh.

A couple of years ago we went to the Blue Ridge Folk Art Museum, and they had an exhibit with some local furniture makers. There was the most gorgeous hand carved writing desk made from a solid piece of hardwood. I still keep an eye out for something similar now that we have a house.

Growing up, my Dad had (and still does to this day) an Eames lounge chair in his office. I always loved to sit in the oversized seat and swing round and round when he wasn’t looking. Not only is it a gorgeous architectural piece, but a lovely bit of nostalgia I’d love to have in my home as well!
