Curtain Call

Finally! Our living room window limbo is no more. This weekend we actually got around to picking up some bamboo blinds to bridge the gap between the top of the window and the curtain rod. Gotta love making windows look bigger and taller while introducing some texture in the process.

Here’s the w.b.b. (window before blinds) totally begging for something under that rod:

And the finished product thanks to two wood blinds from Wal-mart (for 25 bucks a pop) and John’s manly muscles (free of course):

We actually have the same exact blinds in the den and above the laundry nook in lieu of pricey cabinet doors. We love that we could tie them into yet another space to keep things consistent and create the illusion height. White Ikea floor length curtains flanking these simple wood blinds is absolutely our favorite combination for big picture windows (and one that we often suggest to everyone who will listen) but what say you lovely readers? Think we did our home’s biggest window proud?

Psst- Wanna know more about finding the right window treatments for your home? Check out this exhaustive answer.

Stacie’s Design Dilemma

There’s nothing quite like a light and serene spot to rest your pretty little head. And that’s exactly what Stacie had in mind when she wrote to us. Here’s her letter:

What a fun site you have!!! I spent quite a bit of time on it last night and it occurred to me you might be able to help me out. I’m just about to overhaul my bedroom. Its very big and very dark and I want it LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT and airy. I’m into modern styles with a touch of hollywood regency in there somewhere (and I LOVE Barbara Barry). I have to keep the dressers, the TV, the bed and the window shades but the rug and the headboard can go. I’m really sick of the faux finish, and would love a light neutral color on the walls. Oh and I need a couple of chairs, or a lounge or a bench or something to throw junk on, besides the bed! This is such a fun idea you have, to get online advice. So give me whatcha got! – Stacie

The challenge is to lighten and brighten Stacie’s space while adding a clean, modern touch with a dash of sparkle. Luckily she has a whole lotta room to work with. Here’s our mood board:

Colleen’s Design Dilemma

Yep, we’re back with another room redecoration, this time it’s a space that has to perform double duty as both a part-time bedroom and a full-time den. Here’s the gist:

Your blog is such a fun read and I admire all that you’ve done with your house! I need help with a den/part-time bedroom for my fiance’s twelve year old son named Cullen. I’d like to make it a cool media room as well as a bedroom for Cullen when he visits. We have another tv, stereos, speakers, books, and CDs/DVDs to put in here, but it has to mesh with Cullen’s toys (although he’s outgrowing them quickly). I look forward to any advice you have and promise to send you pictures of the updated rooms! – Colleen

Well, we’re definitely fans of a space that can multi-task, and there are plenty of things Colleen can bring into the space that will serve multiple functions around the clock while looking fabulous 24/7. As demonstrated by our mood board below:
