Knock Knock… Who’s There?…
But wait, this is probably our favorite video we’ve ever made, so we’ll let that do the talking. Just allow Clara & Will to explain how you can play along, and please enjoy the outtakes up front, which are my absolute favorite part…
Yup, as that sweet as pie video explains, it’s high time for the winter Pinterest Challenge (not sponsored by Pinterest or anyone else, just dreamed up by Katie Bower to make us stop pinning and start doing). I’m still laughing at how quickly I gave up hope on the kids in that video by the way. Way to keep it real $herdog. But you gotta love when two toddlers prove ya wrong…
Anyway, the whole Pinterest Challenge thing started around a year and a half ago when Katie called me to say that she thought we should challenge ourselves to make one thing each season that’s inspired by all the fun stuff that we’ve pinned (and call it… wait for it… The Pinterest Challenge). It’s a welcome slap of stop-pinning-and-start-doing. So slip into your Hoodie Pillow (please tell me you’ve seen that on Shark Tank), sip on some hot chai, and grab some supplies. It’s time to get this DIY party started!
The only rule is to do your own personal take on something inspirational that you’ve pinned (and link back to the original creator of the project that inspired you, be it a company like Anthropologie or a personal blog that got your wheels a turning). We especially love to pin things from sites that have “Pin It” buttons since it indicates that they enjoy popping up on Pinterest. The project can be anything: big or small; decor or sewing or cooking related – or beyond!
The first time around John and I made a clothespin light for the laundry room, the next time I tackled homemade ornaments, then I faced my sewing demons and made a beanbag pouf for Clara, next I tried my hand at some homemade art, and last time we built a giant leaning chalkboard for the living room. This time when John and I were grocery shopping slash brainstorming (multitasking at its finest) we decided on something fun & large scale-ish (it’ll alter an entire area of our house). And it’s definitely something that has been pinned out the wazoo (there are at least a dozen tutorials over on Pinterest that we can’t wait to reference). So without further ado… here’s a clue for you. Can you crack the code?

The answer: Wainscoting! We’re planning to install it down both sides of our long hallway (this isn’t the frame hallway, it’s the one that leads to the guest room, hall bath, nursery, and playroom) – just to add some architecture and break up that bowling alley feeling of the long bare hall.
Actually if you want to be technical what we’re going to do is probably closer to board & batten. So hmm, what’s a good clue for that? A picture of someone yawning while swinging a baseball bat?
We already bought all of our materials so we’re psyched to get started!
Think we can get it done in a week? We’re definitely going to give it the ol’ college try! Oh and you’re probably wondering who else is playing along with me and K-Bo. Well, we thought it would be fun to ask different folks to “guest host” with us each time (both of whom have done something fun in the previous challenge), so we’re thrilled to have:

So here’s the part where I extend my arm with an alarmingly wide grin and a little bit of paint in my hair and humbly invite you to join in on the winter fun by doing your own spin on something you pin! We figured we’d give everyone (and ourselves) the weekend to work on stuff and reconvene next Wednesday morning (the 27th) to share our projects (you can check out all the amazing linked-up projects from past challenges here, here, here, here, and here). So just drop in next Wednesday to submit a link to your project and to see what we whipped up. In the meantime, do you have any idea what you’ll tackle this time? Is it food, craft, sewing, painting, or furniture related? Perhaps a video full o’ toddler chatter is on the agenda? I highly recommend it.
Psst- One more time, for the people in the back: regardless of the fact that I say Pinterest about thirty times, this wasn’t paid or perked by them or anyone else. We’re just eye-candy obsessed gals who are sick of coveting things and downright ready to do them. Well at least one of them…

I actually first started reading Michelle’s blog after she made the West Elm Inspired Bedframe for a previous Pinterest Challenge so it was awesome to see her name on the co-host list!

I’ll be a watcher this time around again versus a do-er. I don’t think I have anymore “do” in me right now except for what we have going on. Renovations. Never. End.
Any idea when you will start breaking Clara from sucking her thumb? Do you really want to continue giving her buck-teeth? They make thumb guards to help break the habit!
John and I both sucked our thumbs until we were ready to quit and then we did it without any intervention. Clara’s doc has no issue with it and actually said her teeth are super straight and he’d never guess she sucked her thumb! John’s sister sucked her thumb until she was 9 and never needed braces :)

I sucked my thumb too, and didn’t completely stop until I was about 20 (although it was pretty rare by then). I think I did it for so long because my parents put so much energy into trying to stop me. And now, my teeth are great, never needed braces, my dentist had no idea until I told her. According to her, it would take a lot more suction power to affect your teeth than a kid would ever apply.
My dentist didn’t mention this part, but all Clara’s front teeth will be falling out in a few years anyway. Right now her permanent teeth are inside her jaw, far from the sucking.

I totally just bought the Hoodie Pillow for my husband’s birthday…
We put board and batten up in our master bath and really love it. It added great visual interest to the space. The only thing we wish we’d done differently was to use a nail gun and place the nails at the very top/bottom of the board so that they wouldn’t show once the molding goes on. We’ve had a bear of a time covering up the nail holes. Good luck!

Cute! Little kids crack me up. I love when Clara finishes her line and goes right into… “I need a marshmallow.” I love how small kids use language to thwart adult logic. I mean she “needs” a marshmallow… how can you deny her? My co-worker’s little boy says “I can’t like that.” Why would you make him try to eat spinach? He CAN’T like it – so what would be the point? Thwarted.

First of all, that is the cutest intro video! Second of all, we just bought materials for board and batten this morning. We’re on the same wavelength over here. Last time, for the fall Pinterest challenge, no sooner had I blogged about a recent Pinterest-inspired project, the fall Pinterest challenge was announced the next day. Needless to say, I am very excited! Looking forward to next Wednesday.
Ahahahahaa! That video is gold. I think I’m a little too Pinterest impaired to join in on this challenge, but if I can’t bedazzle a pair of overalls, I’ll at least pop in to see all of the genius other people come up with!

Such a cute video. I love Will’s roars. They must be a “thing” with little boys that age, ’cause Max does ‘em too, and we randomly had a liittle 2 year old roar at us at the grocery store the other day.
I gotta start doing a blog for my job, because I keep doing pinterest, etc at work. :)

Awesome! My husband and I just finished doing faux wainscoting (more like board and batten) in our kitchen and the dramatic transformation was pretty amazing. We put a darkish brown color (MS Wild Turkey) above it and the contrast is great. Excited for you!
