This post could be called a tease but I like to consider it a keeping-you-posted thing. So many folks are wondering what’s going on around here, so a picture’s worth a thousand words, right? More pics and deets later!
Psst- To anyone wondering about the vents, there’s more info on how we’ve dealt with those here. As for the electrical wire, ours guy’s coming out to get on that.

Oh happy dance! Can’t wait for the results!
This morning I’ve been sitting at my desk at work mentally going through all of the walls in our home, trying to figure out which one could most use knocking down. I blame you completely.
I just really want to smash something with a sledgehammer haha.
I totally blame you in a good way btw. I just reread my comment and was like “that…sounded sort of evil.”
Haha, I totally took it as a compliment.

Bahhh Sherry, this is so exciting! But where’s the half-wall?
Gotta tear things down to rebuild them! That gets added in last after the doorway is safely reinforced and framed out!

so exciting! i’m (im)patiently waiting for an afternoon update!
I like how “Wowza” sounds. That’s a winner title in my opinion ;)
Hello, stud.
Bwahahahaha. Comment of the day goes to Nat.

I say Holy Schnikies ALL THE TIME!!! :)
Can’t wait to see the updated post this afternoon!
Ahhhhhh cant wait to see! So excited for you!
So, did the guys show on time? Are they on schedule? (Like, it’s not going to go into the next day)
Sitting on my (sl) edge (hammer)…
Yup! On time and rarin’ to go!

We did that, but with plaster walls. Not pretty to work with. Feeling a little jealous of that paneling now.
Oh, I’m so proud of you for leaving a short post!

So exciting! I’ll admit, I was disappointed when you first announced the banquette was a no-go, and I wasn’t too sure about the half-wall, but I’m totally on board with the plan now. It’s going to be so great when you’re done!
Sweet!! Can’t wait to see the progress!
I can’t take the suspense; this might be worse than waiting a year for yet another Call of Duty game. :)
I think I’m going for a record on hitting the “refresh” button, waiting for the big reveal!!!!!
Oh, it was being posted as I wrote that comment!! Looks AWESOME!!!!!!! Doing a happy-dance for YOU!!
I’m starting to get worried about how excited I am about your wall-opening. lol Can’t wait to see it! Around here, we love to move walls, vault ceilings, etc. Cost-wise, it is (usually) such an easy, cheap thing to do that provides such great results, that we always wonder why not too many people do it. Hope you give us lots of picture updates!
I’m so excited to hear you’re planning a rundown post for this afternoon….because I will guiltily admit to sulking when I realized it was Wednesday and thinking we’d have to wait til tomorrow to hear the details on your regular posting schedule. After that tease I’m just so excited to see how this turns out!
I am so excited! I can’t wait for this afternoon’s post!
That’s such a huge milestone! It is all coming together.
We have torn down three brick walls in the last year . dust and dirt without end. In contrast to this, your picture looks like a walk on a sunny afternoon . And the walls were from 1938… i think they were made for eternity. But they had to be torn down for my new big kitchen/dining/living/famillyroom. Hope you have fun and a lot of sunlight in your kitchen. Best wishes from germany,
Vanessa (has to train her english)
I’m glad I’m not the only one who says things like “Holy Schnikies”! It looks great guys, I’m super happy for you!
haha – schnikes! I thought my dad was the only person who said that :)
I’m so excited as I watch the transformation taking place in your home! I’m 40-something and read your blog every day. I know I’m in the minority age-wise, but in 1990, we purchased my grandmother’s 1,008 sq. ft. ranch style home (built in 1960) so I feel we have a lot in common. We were on a tight budget, but there were so many things we wanted to do to the home to make it ours. It barely resembles the home we bought and we have loved every step of the way! I think the change that excites me the most for your family is the way the new opening creates a great traffic pattern. Believe me, as your family grows (ours are teenagers now with friends over frequently) you will be so grateful for the easy way you are able to move about through the kitchen and surrounding areas- never getting trapped in a corner. Keep up the great work. I love watching Clara grow and getting to watch all your changes :)
