Two Heartfelt Letters
Letter #1:
Dear Non-Pinterest Users,
Pinterest might just change your life. And I know what you’re thinking. You’re rolling your eyes and saying “Great, something else to keep up with.” “Something else I have to learn how to use.” “Some other time suck.” I know because I thought these things too. I gave myself every excuse in the book not to get involved (“I already spend enough time keeping up with Facebook”, “I keep inspiration in a binder and in a folder on my desktop – who needs another place?”). And then I talked to Katie B who held a gun to my head persuaded me to quit whining and just go over to pinterest.com and request an account. So I did. And then about two weeks later a verification email showed up in my inbox. And then the “ahhhhhhh” angel sound effect kicked in (you know the one when the clouds part and a ray of light shines down?) and I. Was. In. Love.

Seriously, you know how people say to find your happy place if you’re in a bad mood or feeling uninspired? Pinterest is my happy place. You think that’s enough gushing? I’m not sure it is. Let’s just say I have more ideas than ever. Thanks to all of the amazing inspiration that’s shared every second. I have more ideas for Clara’ birthday party, our house, future art projects, sewing projects with Clara’s weekly photo fabric.

Basically every piece of eye candy that speaks to you can be “pinned” (added to your board) with a note, so you can even remind yourself things like “I want to do this with green balloons for Clara’s party” or “I hope our console table has the same rustic and amazing finish as the stairs in this pic.” So there it is, my invitation into a world full of inspiration and excitement and eye candy as far as the eye can see. Hope to see ya on the flip side. And by the flip side, I mean Pinterest.
- xoxo, Sherry

Letter #2:
Dear Pinterest Users,
Oh my gosh. I know some of you told me about Pinterest months ago and I’m SO LATE on this bandwagon, but I can’t believe how much I love it.

So you were right. Picture me tipping my hat to you. Anyway, here’s a direct link in case you want a peek into my crazy decor/party/baby obsessed mind. Oh and I’m still learning my way around so please forgive me if I commit some giant Pinterest faux pas and don’t follow you back or write back if you write me. It took me way too long to get over there and it’ll probably take me a while to get my “sea legs” when it comes to anything other than pinning and repinning (which is my favorite thing ever!).

In fact I gotta go pin something right now. See ya.
- xoxo, Sherry
Psst- I know this whole post sounds like a big ad for Pinterest but we weren’t paid or perk’d for it. I am just DIE HARD OBSESSED. So pardon my in your face enthusiasm. I’ve had two Pinterest themed dreams since Sunday. It’s a sickness.

I hadn’t heard about Pinterest until you mentioned it on Facebook… I already requested an invite and I’m waiting for mine. Can’t wait to get “pinning”! (is that how you say it..?)
When Sherry posted it on Facebook, someone commented with a link with an instant invite- that’s how I got in. Hope it helps!
Thanks Noel! I’ll check it out!
just used this and it worked right away!!! in LOVE already!
Yay! Already have my account set up as well, thanks for the advice!
This looks so fun! I went to the fb page, but I don’t see the instant link. For those of you who used it, could you post it here too? Thanks!
Yes post away if you guys have them!

This stairs in picture #2….O…M….Goodness!!! Be still my heart. Headed there NOW!!!
So, I totally understand your obsession! Pinterest is addicting, to say the least. So many things to be found that I probably never would have before. I had about 10, “Ohh, I should do that” items before Pinterest, now, I have about 60! If only I had more time. Anyway, love it, too.
If you want to see some of my pins, here I am: http://pinterest.com/ourhumbleabowed/
Yay! I’m obsessed, too. Look out for a new follower.
I just started using it and I am obsessed as well! No more save picture as, this is all I need!
Here’s something for your account:

bees!
Questions- if a bee were flying around Clara would you smash it or let it be(e)? Does Burger ever eat bees?
So cute! Burger tries to catch bees but never does. I have learned not to mess with them, so “let it bee” would be my mantra.

I LOVE pinterest . . . serious addiction. I dig the whole multiple-board organization of all of those inspiring things and people.
Virtual hi-5 for joining.
Random question that has nothing to do with this post:
Have you and/or John ever “grown to love” a decorative decision/home improvement?
I read religiously, and I almost always find that you usually love an idea right from the get go, or try it, don’t like it at all, and try again.
I was just wondering if you’ve ever mad a change that you didn’t feel 100% about, left it alone, but grown to adore it, and if so, what those changes were?
We’re usually initially in lust with something (although we toss around the word love a lot, hence our blog name, hah). But it always takes time for our eyes to adjust fully and for us to definitively decide that we love something for sure. Almost every major thing that we do happens that way (from painting the dark walls in the guest room to going with gray for the beams in the living room, etc). I think it’s the nature of risky things like that to feel out there and crazy while you do them (like painting a chair green, haha) and then you step back and let things settle and see how you feel. Usually they grow on us and rooms evolve around them and it all starts to make sense, but sometimes (like the painted chair) they just don’t work so we go back to the drawing board. Hope it helps!

oh my word! A-MAZING!!!!….i could stare at pictures all day long!
Thanks for posting!!!! :)
I’m totally obsessed as well. This is me: http://pinterest.com/krysta_baughman/
I’ve been on their waiting list for 2 weeks….but it feels like FOREVER! The site is SO amazing!
I JUST got my invite today. LOVE it! I’m at http://pinterest.com/jensnyder. Yay!
I agree…I’m OBSESSED! I hadn’t heard of it until you mentioned it on facebook. LOVE IT!
I don’t generally comment on blogs – but I had to in this case because I can’t stress enough my love for pinterest. I’m obsessed and it just makes me so happy to see all of the lovely things people have pinned from all over the internet! =) Happy pinning!
Welcome to the dark side ;)
Trying to request an invite, but their site is tricky. Can’t figure out if it has accepted my request or not. Bummer.
I love Pinterest, it really is very addicting!
My entire day has been consumed by Pinterest. Thinking about Pinterest, pinning..etc. It’s the first thing I do in the morning when I’m sipping my coffee and the last thing I browse at night before I sleep.
I am OBSESSED. I’ve gotten so many great ideas and hope that I’m contributing to others also!
Welcome to the dark side. :) I am so obsessed with Pinterest! I find a million ideas on there.
i just tried to check it out and it looks like their served crashed! hopefully its up and running soon. i’m intrigued!
Oh no! We can’t kill Pinterest, I love Pinterest!

I can totally relate! It’s my happy place too. I get so giddy and excited over all the stuff I’ve pinned- I’ve created inspiration boards for my house, wedding, and even classroom. Ever since you posted the link on Facebook over the weekend, I have become totally addicted. Seriously…I can barely tear myself away! And when I come across something I think you’ll really like, I get the urge to share it. I’ve been wanting to ask you if you would mind if your followers share pins with you? According to the site, there’s a way to do it by typing “@Username” into a comment to recommend a pin to someone else.
I’m off to pin away in “new user” Pinterest bliss!
OOh yeah- share away! Not sure how it works but I’ll figure it out. Haha.

why does it take two weeks for the invite to come.. sigh. i wanna play.
I agree – 2 weeks, that is nearly a lifetime in the cyber world. What the heck…..
I haven’t joined (though I occassionally stalk!), but I did catch those heart matted maps last week and I love them! I have already decided they will find a home in my future gallery wall :)
I had never heard of it until you posted on facebook. Then I just got annoyed that the invite I requested never showed. I guess it’s good to know that it takes a while and that i’m not a pinterest reject!
You can invite people to Pinterest if you have a Pinterest account, instead of them having to wait for their request to go through.
Really? I have to figure that out. Anyone else who is a more savvy member mind posting a direct invite if they know how in the meantime?
xo,
s
someone posted this link when you mentioned Pinterest on facebook – I tried it and was able to get an account right away:
http://www.beyond-snapshots.com/blog/2011/02/23/we-%E2%99%A5-pinterest/
The direct invitation link is at the bottom of the post. Totally resulted in spending much of my Sunday on the site :)
Sweet! Thanks for sharing it. Anyone who’s dying for a direct invite should be able to follow that link (and click the one at the bottom of the post). Good luck and happy pinning!

I requested an account the other day and thought it didn’t like me as I hadn’t heard anything. So excited that I just need to be a bit patient… I sense an obsession brewing!
Super excited to follow you and to see that you pinned my nursery—it’s the one with the “amazingness” above the changing table! Always inspired by you, so quite flattered to have you include our nursery!
I am sooo in love with this site. I have never heard about it.
What a bummer, their not accepting new requests right now. See what you did, lol now their on the map because of your guys ;)
thanks so much for posting, I will keep checking back
YHL & BowerPower have been linking back and forth a lot. I love both of your blogs but can we hear how you and Bower Power became friends? Was it the NJ connection? Blogging? School? Just
Blogging. Just pain old blogging. She emailed me to say if we were ever going to be in Atlanta we should hang out and it turned into a three day sleepover and we never slept. Just stayed up all night talking about our hopes and dreams. It was love at first sleepover. Now we travel to hang out about twice a year and chat for hours on the phone each week. Love KB so much.

You’re absolutely right! Pinterest IS a sickness! I know better than to hop on there “for a quick look”, because that quick look turns into an hour. Bam. I’m hopelessly addicted, but if lovin’ Pinterest is wrong, I don’t wanna be right. :) My idea gears are just constantly moving now! The next task at hand: to get OFF Pinterest and make some of the cool things I’ve been pinning!!
Ahh I just requested to be on Pintrest this morning. They sent an email saying they’d let me know if I made the list! I feel like I’m trying to get into some exclusive club.
I’ve been using Pinterest for a while now and I LOVE it. I find it has even more purposes when you are a blogger. It has even come in handy now that I am planning my wedding, I have a whole board dedicated to it that I can go to for quick reference, pinned from stuff I have starred in my Google Reader since forever. I have another one dedicated to the bridesmaids – I pinned several options for dresses they can choose from, sent them the link, and once they chose a dress, went back and put their name on the pin. I keep finding more and more great ways to use Pinterest!
I love that site! I waste way too much time there, but it’s such a beautiful idea! And, I love being able to share my inspiration with others instead of hoarding it all on my desktop. Now to find a way to convert all those .jpegs on my computer to Pinterest links…
I started following you a few days ago (so happy I stumbled across you! I love your blog, and your pins help me see the way you think when it comes to design. Very helpful to me, someone who has not yet owned a home, but is dreaming). I might suggest making more than one huge board so that it will be easier to find all your pins later. For example, you could have a “Clara’s Birthday” board and a “DIY” board and an “At Home” board. Then, when you’re looking for one specific thing, it will be easier to find! Just a thought, I know that’s helpful for me!
http://pinterest.com/rachelastephens/
Yup, I definitely need to get more savvy and make a Clara board and a House board or something like that!
xo,
s
I’ve never heard of this before, but it looks amazing! I had a baby May 8 (so you know…if Clara’s is ever looking for a date…), so I’m also collecting ideas for the big first birthday party! I’m only concerned that I’m going to have to wait TWO WEEKS for the invite! I want to pin NOW!
PS: I’ve been planning for weeks to do tissue-paper pouf grouping similar to the one above the changing table in the pic above, and using it for the birthday party and then for a nursery decoration. I’m stoked you picked up on a similar idea!
LoVe iT!!
i felt the same way as you did…until i broke down and started using it!
just started following your pinterest.
Have fun!!
Is something supposed to happen after you click “Request an invite” or does the page just stay the same? Wondering if we crashed them or if the request went through…
Uh oh, might have crashed it. I don’t really remember what happened when I signed up (I was on the phone with Katie so it’s a blur). Haha.
xo,
s
I have tried to send a “request an invitation” but nothing happens… is it just click and let it be? or click and wait for computer to read it and then wait? sorry i’m soo excited about the DIY section of “pinning” that I want to make sure I’m getting invited correctly.. yaaaaaay thanks for the heads-up! :)
I just clicked and waited two weeks or so. Anyone else have more details for Jessie? I did it while on the phone with Katie so I was only half paying attention. Haha.
xo,
s
I had a similar problem. I clicked the button but nothing happened. I reloaded the browser and then it worked – came up with the words ‘you’re on the waiting list’ or something to that effect.
At the bottom of this post there is an instant invite you could try. I found it from someone who commented on Sherry’s Facebook post. I’ve been pinning ever since!
http://www.beyond-snapshots.com/blog/2011/02/23/we-%E2%99%A5-pinterest/
HHaha My friend introduced me to pinterest and I’m hooked too. Since adding your pinboard as one that I follow, I’ve been meaning to message you to say that you ARE totally obsessed!!! :) Your pins completely cover my screen every time I log in! It’s fun though huh?
Here are my pins: http://pinterest.com/nicole_doan/
Hahahaha! I knew you’d love it! How could anyone not love it?
I’ve been promoting it left and right, but my enthusiasm is mostly falling on deaf ears… (I guess my husband and 23 year old brother don’t share my love of constant visual stimulation.) From now on I’ll link to this post when I’m trying to sell it. And yes–even though I too have no affiliation with Pinterest, I can’t help but “sell it” either.
I’m a newbie on Pinterest too, and OhEmGee. I love it so much that all I can think about is pinning things.
I love Pinterest too! Have been using it for awhile, and it’s just the bestest. I’m here: http://pinterest.com/housebella/
I’m so glad you said it took a few weeks so I know a time frame. I sent my request a week ago and feel like a silly girl waiting by the phone for her crush to call! ;) I’ll keep stalking my inbox. :)
I haven’t even gotten into the sign yet, and I’m already obsessed! :)
Has anyone else had a problem requesting an invitation? I keep putting in my email address and clicking Request Invitation, but nothing happens – no confirmation or anything. I’ve tried on Safari & Firefox on my Mac, so not sure if it’s a browser issue. Just wondering if anyone else had issues.
Thanks Sherry for the great recommendation! Just one more reason we love you!
I prefer Evernote. :) http://evernote.com/
This question is for anyone who’s used both Evernote and Pinterest:
Are they different enough that you need both? (I currently use Evernote for my inspiration collecting.) I’m guessing seeing other people’s inspiration is cool about Pinterest.
It definitely sounds great. I’ll have to learn more. Thanks for any help from YHL and their readers!
I use both Pinterest and Evernote religiously. I think the visual layout and interface of pinterest is more accessible for visual oriented brains. Plus it helps because you might think “oh I’m really into stripes right now” Then a few days go by and you can look at your boards and see that it turns out you’re only into “blue stripes” or something… Then when I’m ready to blog about something or plan a project I can follow the blue hyper link highway and pull only specific things to evernote and make more notes and ideas without clogging up my visual boards on pinterest with excessive text and notes. But then again I’m a hyper-organizer / compartmentalizer. Do what works for you! Oh and the Menu bar clipper thingie majig for pinterest is far better than Evernotes… But thats just me!
I love love love Pinterest. I would recommend using multiple boards, since I see you only have one. I would recommend at least one for home, one for Clara, one for clothes, etc. Once you get lots of pins up, it can be difficult to sort back through your board for the pin you’re looking for. Having multiple boards helps. I recently separated my garden board from my decor and architecture board, for example. I also find that sometimes I have trouble loading older pins. It’s easy when you pin things, there’s just a drop down menu with all of your boards.
Oh, and I should have mentioned:
http://pinterest.com/gaidig/
Pinterest is the bomb diggity. I love how active the community is! –> http://pinterest.com/elisaself/
Although I am impressed/slightly concerned at how many pins you already have. Hah.
It’s a sickness. Somebody stop me.

s
This is so funny, I was thinking about this earlier today and searched your Facebook page for the Pinterest link. I just might have to get one myself!
Ha! Pinterest is my happy place! So many pretty things! I just get lost in a daze of aesthetic pleasure. Except it keeps crashing, natch. I followed you, Sherry.
Love following you Pinterest! Love Pinterest! Love organizing all the things I like on different boards.Yay Pinterest!
