Fab Freebie: Deco-rating Help
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – look below to see who won!***
The winner of the $300 gift card toward the MyDeco Boutique as selected by random.org is… Beth-BTW (who uses virtual mood boards sometimes, but usually flies by the seat of her pants when it comes to decor planning). Congrats!
This week’s prize comes from mydeco.com, a site that helps you design a space you’ll love in many ways. For starters, they catalog products from hundreds of retailers in one search-able spot. But they go above and beyond too: allowing you to create mood boards, collect your favorite items in online folders, and even virtually decorate your home in 3D using thousands of finishes and materials. Oh, and most importantly this week, they’re helping one of you with $300 (!!) to spend in the mydeco boutique – a hand-picked collection of designer items, like these below:
- PRIZE: A $300 gift card toward the MyDeco Boutique
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “THAT’S MY DECO!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … share what techniques you use when planning to decorate a space. Do you rely on some of these tools like mood boards, inspiration folders, or virtual room planners? Or do you fly by the seat of your pants a bit more? (Oh, and we’d love to know what you might spend that $300 on if you were to win too!)
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 9th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from mydeco.com.

THAT’S MY DECO!
I’m still trying to figure it out!
That’s my deco!
I have an embarrassing large folder on my computer where I save pictures of rooms/cool art/fun furniture that I like to use as inspiration!
That’s my deco!
I like to peruse the internet for inspiration and then use mood boards to put all my ideas together.
THAT’S MY DECOR!
That’s my deco!!
I use internet/blog/ and magazine inspiration – as well as Pinterest!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I’m a fly by the seat of my pants kinda girl. I usually search the internet for inspiration, and when I’m shopping I look for things that go with our color scheme. When I find something I love, I will buy it and carry it around with me to make sure the other things I buy look good with it.
That’s my deco! I like looking at blogs and catalogs for inspiration. I usually do baby steps and it can take a LONG time for me to complete a room! Right now I need some inspiration for the family room we painted over a year ago and has all hand me down furniture in it!
That’s my deco!
I use colors and then pick out random things I like. I think a mood board would help me a lot though.
“THAT’S MY DECO!” I would love to add some lamps in my family room. Great ideas!!!!
That’s my deco! I am not a planner! I like to pick up pieces as I find them.
THAT’S MY DECO! I usually have a general color concept in mind, but I then search several online resources (PB, Crate and Barrel, West Elm, etc. to name a few) and go to Target for more ideas. From there, though, I get lost and overwhelmed usually! I’d love to pick up some beautiful prints from mydeco.com.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I love to read blogs about decorating to gain inspiration and knowledge. I’m a real fan of spontaneity and enjoy just getting my hands dirty and trying new things.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I often buy things and live with them for a week and then return them!
That’s my deco! and I would love to spend the money decorating our new place come summer.
That’s my deco! I like to visit thrift and antiques shops for that one piece that will serve as inspiration.
That’s MYDECO!!!
I usually spy on blogs like yours for inspiration.
That’s my deco!
What a fun site! I am definitely a fly-by-my-seat sort of gal. It works well for me! So far, so good =)
That’s my deco! I look at design blogs, HGTV, and home magazines for a lot of my design inspiration, but most of mine really comes from my gut. Not the intestinal kind, but the “this just feels right” kind!
That’s my deco! I’m a planner. Tear sheets, mood boards, floor plans on graph paper to scale, etc. I’m always thinking about each room and plotting/planning possibilities. So fun!
THAT”S MY DECO! I usually ask my daughter for her opinion on most things, and am never afraid to try new things.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I like to fly by the seat of my pants. I prefer to learn by trial and error.
That’s my deco!
I think I’m slower than mud when decorating a space. I have found that I collect inspiration from design blogs… and eventually find things that speak to me. Or when I’m not finding what I want, I’ll just DIY it.
As for the my deco boutique… I love the cute pillows & toiletry bags (would have to get a couple as gifts!) and the Bloom felt runner & coasters are lovely.
Thanks!!
that’s my deco!!
i tend to use a lot of ideas i find on design sites, much like this one and design sponge.
we just moved into an old farm house that we’re renovating on our own. we are not that good at it. we can use all of the help we can get.
That’s my deco!
I collect magazine clippings, images online, and regularly peruse my favorite DecorPad and Houzz websites to get inspired!
That’s my Deco!
In the past, I’ve preferred immediate gratification with very little planning. Kind of like a child – I see, I want! haha! However, recently, I’ve been trying to plan more with inspiration pics and mood boards. The results have been much better!
That’s my deco! I get ideas from magazines and websites like Young House Love. Usually the overall “mood” of a room and colors inspire me. Starting major remodeling this summer; would be easy to spend $300 on some cute cushions, lamps, and/or clocks.
THATS MY DECO!!
I usually find an inspiration piece or a color that I love and then run with it. Last time in my living room I found a rug that both my husband and I loved and then went off of that. We just moved into our new home in OKC and need so many accesories to decorate the house. Plus any decorations for the front living room that right now just has a lonely couch.
THAT’S MY DECO!
THAT’S MY DECO…
I usually find one or two theme pieces and spread the love from there. (no-pun intended) If I won I’d have to say I’d look for something “pirate-y” for my DS’s room, anything girly for my DD’s room or anything black, white or buttery yellow for the kitchen.
That’s my deco! I used the 3D for our redesign of our living room and it was great! It showed us that the rug we though would be perfect, really didn’t work thereby saving us time and money. I like the Helen Minns pilows and also I need lighting for our now redesigned living room.
THAT’S MY DECO!!
I start with the big pieces & work down to the small ones. I found our sofa first, armchairs second, side tables third, and am slowing getting all of my accessories in place. Our living room is done, but I would surely use $300 towards decorating our bedroom!!
THAT’S MY DECO!
i’m a fly by the seat of my pants decorator… although i do enjoy checking out magazines and blogs for ideas to somehow make my own.
That’s my deco!
I use a lot of different blogs (like yours!) for inspiration.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I use tear sheets out of magazines, inspiration from blogs, catalogs. Usually base it all around color and then go with it and it evolves over time. I always need (okay want) more lighting!
“THAT’S MY DECO!”
I have some colors that I keep in mind for each room, and keep in mind what “holes” I have to fill, but I don’t really plan, per se. Heck, I don’t even space plan, I have no problem moving my furniture a dozen times until I like it!
I’d probably buy some new frames since I just went on vacation and have tons of art and photos to frame!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I imitate Young House Love, of course! You guys do the hard work of researching and sharing great design tips, which I am all too happy to implement. Thanks! I’d spend the winnings on odds and ends that give the place quirky and fun character.
THAT’S MY DECO!
No mood boards exactly…just a large folder in my computer of photos of rooms I love, collected over the years…
THAT’S MY DECO!
I’m definitely more of a wing-it kind of person, which is good right now as every piece of furniture in my house (except for one large bookcase) I got for free or at a yard sale. I am taking lessons from you guys, though (looking for an abstract/circle-y pattern rug and accessories to complement all the straight-line furniture in my living room, for example). Hopefully, when I have more time, I’ll eventually get into more planned out decorating… love the whole concept of virtual room planners!!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I have winged it in the past – found a piece I love (comforter, art, whatever) and decorate around it. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of internet perusing and compiling ideas via Photoshop though and am totally addicted to design shows. As for what I’d buy… Good question.
That’s my deco!
At this point it is fly by the seat of my pants. We have a lot of free furniture that we are slowly replacing with Ikea and Craigslist finds as we can afford them.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I make folders on my computer separated by color.. then save everything I love.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I like what I like. I don’t always match. But it works somehow.
“THAT’S MY DECO!” Looking for new peices to “finish” off our bedroom. Would love to search on MY DECO!
That’s MY Deco!
I turn to my pinterest boards for inspiration but usually let color and the space guide the design! So many great things to choose from I can’t narrow it down yet!
THAT’S MY DECO!
The internets always saves the day for me!
THATS MY DECO!
I like to look at YHL to get ideas!!!
That’s My Deco! I am a visual person. I like things like mood boards my wife puts together to see how things would pair up. We need some new stuff for the bedroom to turn it into a nice space for the two of us to relax.
THAT’S MY DECO!
Our space is currently woefully undecorated. We would use the gift card to add some much-needed color to our home. :)
That’s My Deco!! I would LOVE to get the $300 to put toward some beautiful accessories for my bedroom. Or I would LOVE to be able to put it toward a rug for either the bedroom or living room. So many design ideas (I am a mood board AND inspiration folder girl.) and so little money!
