Fab Freebie: Deco-rating Help
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – look below to see who won!***
The winner of the $300 gift card toward the MyDeco Boutique as selected by random.org is… Beth-BTW (who uses virtual mood boards sometimes, but usually flies by the seat of her pants when it comes to decor planning). Congrats!
This week’s prize comes from mydeco.com, a site that helps you design a space you’ll love in many ways. For starters, they catalog products from hundreds of retailers in one search-able spot. But they go above and beyond too: allowing you to create mood boards, collect your favorite items in online folders, and even virtually decorate your home in 3D using thousands of finishes and materials. Oh, and most importantly this week, they’re helping one of you with $300 (!!) to spend in the mydeco boutique – a hand-picked collection of designer items, like these below:
- PRIZE: A $300 gift card toward the MyDeco Boutique
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “THAT’S MY DECO!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … share what techniques you use when planning to decorate a space. Do you rely on some of these tools like mood boards, inspiration folders, or virtual room planners? Or do you fly by the seat of your pants a bit more? (Oh, and we’d love to know what you might spend that $300 on if you were to win too!)
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 9th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

That’s My Deco!
I have to plan my decorating…I take my time and research magazines, catalogs and blogs for inspiration! I’m a dork like that! I think I would love to spruce up my walls with some new artwork.
THAT’S MY DECO!
Let’s just say I mapped out our new floor plan old-school style on graph paper. Then proceeded to cut out to-scale size shapes that represented each piece of furniture. I suppose that makes me a planner…
I do enjoy decorating based on random finds at the local Restore and Goodwill, however. It keeps things interesting!
That’s My Deco!
I like using magazines or rooms I find on decor pad, then see what I already have at home to help cut expenses toward the new look. I am in desperate need of pillows and lighting for my living room, hope I win!
THAT’S MY DECO!
When planning a space, I got through and measure every last existing thing that will go in it. Then I create a scaled layout in Illustrator and go to town moving everything around. After that, I source what I need to buy, which hopefully isn’t much!
That’s my deco!
I don’t really have a set plan…I check out photos for inspiration and then just DREAM! :)
That’s my deco! I do tons of internet image searches and lately I’ve been attempting to create my own mood boards – starting with one item ( a wall color or fabric swatch) and building off that :)
That’s my deco!!!
I fly by the seat of my pants! And I shop – a lot. If I see something I like, I try to imagine it in my house. If I can’t picture it at home, it’s probably not a good choice!
That’s my deco!
I always have an inspiration piece that I build a new space around. I never hurry putting it together though – I love to take my time and live with each piece until I figure out what needs to be added next.
THAT’S MY DECO!
Yeah, I’m pretty much fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants.
THAT’S MY DECO!
Magazine pages, blogs, especially YHL!
That’s my Deco!
I start with a color or decorative piece and build, but Im just learning.
That’s my deco! I read lots of magazines, tear out inspirational pictures and file them. I also read design and file pictures for future reference. I need to buget, so have no choice but to plan carefully.
that’s my deco! i love planning my rooms on the internet
That’s my deco!
Generally I just wing it. Sometimes this works great, and sometimes I end up with nothing hanging on the walls for THREE YEARS. (ahem). :)
THAT’S MY DECO!
I just have a vision and then search out what I want. Trial and error I guess.
THAT’S MY DECO! My inspiration usually comes from one thing I LOVE. A pillow, wall hanging, duvet or other fabric, etc. and it grows from there.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I browse online and in stores until I can’t procrastinate any longer. I just sold my last piece of living room furniture on Craig’s List last night. Guess the procrastination has to come to an end on this project now! :)
THATS MY DECO!
I usually start with the wall color and layer in from there.
THAT’S MY DECO
I try to loosely base things off inspiration photos and mostly just work with what I have vs replace everything all at once.
That’s me deco!
I love the mood board approach.
That’s my deco!
I do a lot of web surfing and window shopping for inspiration.
“THAT’S MY DECO!”
I definitely fly by the seat of my pants. A wall color or a duvet can help with initial inspiration, and I just go from there!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I keep inspiration folders on my computer to try and figure out a decoration plan-of-attack.
That’s my deco :)
I have a crazy good memory when I see something I like, so I browse various blogs (ie: yours, apartment therapy and the newly launched Offbeat Home) for inspiration, when I see it, it gets filed away in my head.
THAT’S MY DECO!!! The biggest drive for the design is budget- even if I’m absolutely enamored w/ an item- it’s gotta be affordable or I don’t get it. (It takes a lot of patience and a lot of time)… :)
THAT’S MY DECO!
I usually start with a color scheme: paint color, cool decoration for inspiration, and take the rest from there! I am in the mood for turning our sun porch from drab to fab this spring, so that is what I would spend the moolah on!
THAT’S MY DECO!!!
THAT’S MY DECO
That’s my deco and I can think of 300 ways to spend that gift card!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I get inspired by tear sheets I’ve pulled from magazines & pretty much….take it from there!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I browse through magazines and websites for inspiration, then try out some combinations in Photoshop, then scrap all plans and go for impulse buys. :)
THAT’S MY DECO!
My inspiration is from finding things that I love. All the rest comes together.
that’s my deco!
I definitely fly by the seat of my pants! for example, i saw a bright red sectional at the mall the other day and fell in love. Now i’m trying to figure out how to decorate around it! haha
THAT’S MY DECO!
I try to decorate in a functional, fun way that makes me happy. It’s usually not a very planned process.
That’s my deco! I love working from a swatch of colors or a picture whose vibe I dig.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I usually just buy what looks good to me at the time and hope my hubby will be in agreement with me :)
That’s my deco! Our house is being decorated gradually, I know what I want…the hard part is to find it at the right price!
that’s my deco!
i think i am sort of a fly by the seat of my pants person… i get ideas from catalogs and magazines, but i just throw things together. i am trying to plan things out a little more.
“THAT’S MY DECO!”
I definitely fly by the seat of my pants
THAT’S MY DECO! I usually turn to antique stores, Etsy, and design/home magazines for inspiration.
THATS MY DECO!!!!! I do research on pintrest, dwellingsgawker and shop goodwill and craigslist for inspiration & things to re-invent. I would use the $300 on anything for a new home one day when I get married.. hopefully thats not too far away!
That’s My Deco!
I’m a know when i see it gal. So i browse & shop & daydream until it hits me.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I agonoize for months + years and then make a gut decision when the deadline is looming (and the deadline is usually determined by guests coming to stay in our home).
I would spend the $300 on some awesome frames for some recently purchased prints.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I ususally just go with the flow and if I find something I really love and have to have, I buy it! When the hubby & I finally buy a house instead of renting one, I think I’ll take more time to plan, search the internet, maybe create some mood boards and keep an inspiration folder.
THATS MY DECO!!
My husband catches me sometimes just looking around our house, imagining how I’d like to decorate, or how I
Could change things and make them better. But mostly I like to look at magazines or blogs like this for ideas!
That’s my deco! Inspiration is usually a pillow, a color, then it takes over the entire space.
That’s my deco!
That’s my deco! I definately fly by the seat of my pants!
thats my deco
i just browse the net and get old home magazines from the library and clip pics that i like. I got a home renovation planner that i keep all my ideas in
That’s my Deco! I just try to integrate things that I like. And sometimes I copy what other people do (why do you think I read your awesome blog! :) )
